Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Hi there...

I hatched out 5 JG on new Year's Day with eggs from Maria's Jersey Giants.

I am confident I have three roos (they started crowing at 5 weeks)... they are all black. And I have one pullet...she is splash and I have one blue whose sex is yet to be determined....

Anyway, I cannot keep the roos and I need to find a good home for them. They are quite beautiful (to me anyway) and incredibly tame. I constantly pet them, hold them, they sit on me, eat from my hand, follow me around like puppies, come running when they hear my voice. I adore them.

I'd like to keep one to get some fertile eggs from but if he starts crowing too much he is gonna have to go....

Is there anyone interested in my roos? I am in So Cal and am willing to meet you halfway if the distance is reasonable. I just want a good home where they can be real men to the ladies...

Anyone know if they are constant crowers when sexually mature? I had a modern game bantam that crowed all freaking day long when he became horny and I had to let him go since I cannot keep roos where I live.

Mine do not crow much at all.

FOR REAL!!!!!

I want to keep at least one. I love them so much!! I heard that little roos tend to crow a lot more than a full-sized roo. Kinda like little man syndrome.

Only in Hollywood do roosters crow only in the morning.

Really though, I have alot of chickens, and it really is not noisy here.

I just ordered 10 Blues from Bobbi Porto. My buddy is taking 5 and I'm taking 5. Unsexed. Now we have a 2 month or so wait while they hatch and grow.

I found Bobbi to be very helpful and reasonably priced! Now I have to make room for more birds!

I'd love to be a source in Northern NY for Blues and Splashes but I'll have to read up on breeding and genetics first!

Hey everyone! I'm so glad this thread is here!! Weird how such a popular breed doesnt semm to get much 'press'.

So, I'm kinda new to JBG's and have a few quick questions...
I bought 2 hens that I was told are 8 or 9 months old, and they arent laying yet, is that normal? Is there a way to tell if the hens I bought are in fact JBG's and not Australorps? Mine do have yellow tipped beaks and yellow on the entire bottoms of their feet. Just want to be sure before I do any breeding.

I also recently bought a youngish JBG Roo (I say youngish because he doesnt have spurs yet, just bumps) will his presence make my hens not lay? He doesnt even ever try to mate them or do the show off dance for them- I've seen him dance and mate my other hens though!! What gives??

How old are these girls gonna get before they lay? They've been here almost 2 weeks now, and have free range room and get an amazingly good diet. Any insight would be most helpful!!
