Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Looking for a Black jersy giant rooster in the south Ga / north Fl aera , Have 7 hens and lost my roo to a hawk about 2 months ago . hens just started laying last week .

Sorry have no idea about the chickens....but that has to be the funniest (and at the same time scariest) sentence possible....

When my time comes , I want to go quietly in my sleep like Grandpa ,not kicking and screaming like the other 4 people in his car

Soaring - WOOT on your hatch! Pics!!!!???!!!

Linda - did you get your eggies?

Ghost - wish I'd have seen your post before going to the dr., as I'd have rather tried something homeopathic in nature first before going on prescription meds.

MFB, birdguy - thanks so much for your kind words, and thank you ALL for your prayers & special thougths as I continue to get mended!

The doctor said it's just my degenerative disc disease (arthritis, or "the arthur" as DH calls it) getting worse. She prescribed prescription strength ibuprofen, a muscle relaxer, and, if those don't help, I am to add Tramadol, which apparently confuses the pain signals that are being set off in the spinal column. Interesting and scary all at the same time that a tiny pill can do that much! Medical science just amazes me.

And, I am SOOO happy to report that, after just one day on meds, I am already noticing a bit of a difference! I have to think that means it won't take long before I'm actually able to get back to hauling 5 gallon water buckets & flinging bales of hay!

Again - thank you ALL so much for the prayers, kind words, and special thoughts - I am always just astounded by the loving, compassionate, and friendly folks here on BYC!

then I'll grow them out and pic over load the form and bug everyone to death about what do you think of this one. Which one should I keep and all that stuff.
Everyone is dry I do not think the last eggs will hatch now so if I get home from work before dark today I'll try to post some pictures if not today I'll try for Friday.

Wynette...first of all Congratulations on being one of the April best "educators"!. You surely deserve it and I didn't know about this award thingy until I read it on the Michigan thread.
I emailed you about 12 minutes ago to say I GOT YOUR JERSEY EGGS!!

More details are in my email to you but they arrived beautifully and were packaged so very well.
I'm glad you got some meds for your back pain...looking at them I am thinking you must have a very tough tummie...no way could I handle them.

So...I have 27 eggs ready to go into the incubator. I will let Wynette's eggs adjust for a few hours...and then at 6pm will begin!! I have to stack 3 eggs on top but after day 7 I imagine some will be gone and they will fit fine. Due date May 26 and I will FINALLY have some Jersey Giants!!

ALWAYS great to meet a fellow Jersey Giant lover!!! Neat story that your son picked chickens to show!

Where are you located? Do you hatch, or were you looking for chicks/juveniles/adult stock? I'm sure we can find someone in your area to help you out with more!

I'm so new at this I just found this post.

so sorry it took me so long to reply.
I'm looking for SQ Jersey Giants to raise and hatch our own to show. Austin has 2 breeding pair in the cock and hen class. He also picked up 11 chicks this spring hoping to get some SQ birds out of this hatch. Austin is also going to try and pick up some more at the National's in Indy this Fall.
We are located in Spencer,Indiana thats between Indpls and Terre Haute. So the nationals will be a great place for A 4-H to pick up good quality SQ stock.

Sounds like Austin has a good start!

I'm near Flint, MI - it would be a bit of a haul for you, but I do have some very nice stock. I have some 4 week olds, but they will likely not be grown enough to show this year. Just mentioning it for future info.! Make sure to look me up before Nationals - I'll be able to meet you in person!
