Judge my Marans Roo, Please!

Will some qualified Marans folk please come save this thread from the crazies?

I have some BCMs, but still don't consider myself qualified. :D

I'd post some pics on the BCM thread. There are some fabulous folks there that know exactly what to look for.

I'll try. For some reason I thought that thread was dead, though.

It has its ups and downs. But there are still a few folks there that will give you honest, specific critiques (edit - it may take a few days though). I see you found it. :clap

Personally, I think he's beautiful, but one thing that bothers me is the copper on his chest. He is still plenty young, and will still change some though. I do believe the SOP says some is acceptable, but I think its hard to breed back out to solid black.
Combs are easier to work with, and less critical, I think, but I'm not sure how hard it is to get rid of sprigs.
I know shape and carriage, especially tail carriage are also very important, but not something I am versed enough to comment about.

Well, I've got several roos with black breasts, but even more hens that are almost solid black. I think I'm going to use this boy to try and introduce some more color, and maybe they will even themselves out. Do you think?
