Well, Juliet quit the eggs....apparently 3 is enough for her. But she did give me quite a scare yesterday morning. Went to feed, water and let everyone out. Everything normal. Brought food and water up to her nest and nest was empty except for eggs. No Juliet, no chicks! Panic! She was downstairs under the ramp inside the coop! All 3 chicks accounted for and doing great! She has since set up housekeeping in the transition cage in the coop. That's where she bedded everyone down last night.

And today she brought the babies outside for a little while!

Juliet set everyone's eggs, so it's pretty hard to say who the "real" Mom is. I couldn't bear to part with any of my store bought chickens that I raised from day olds, let alone any that would be hatched out in my very own coop.

Clearly, I'm not in it for the breeding.

That said, The little black, I believe, is from one of the Barred Rocks. As far as the other two....well, here's the deal:

Maternal possibilities (of those laying at the time): Buff Orpington, White Rock, Barred Rock, Rhode Island Red, and Black Australorp.

Paternal possibilities: Rhode Island Red and Buff Orpington.

I say Barred Rock on the little black one because it's legs are light colored, not dark like Maxine's first black chick. (Maxine is a White Rock who hatched two a couple months ago).

It would be nice to know for sure, but I really don't care. Really. I love them ALL so, so much!!!

OH! Almost forgot...will post new pics tomorrow afternoon. Left camera in the barn cuz batteries went dead....I swear, I'm gonna tie that thing around my neck and duck tape spare batteries to my forehead!!!
