July 4th Hatch-A-Long?

A picture of Firecracker going out to his mother. I have at least five others that have external pips, including one other a mother (she is in a safe nest so I let them hatch under the Mom in that case) and the rest in the incubator because in the past chicks have been killed by other hens wanting to lay eggs in the nest boxes.

Awww too cute!!! Glad it's doing well!

I've helped mine and so have others. It a timing thing. Too soon and it won't have fully absorbed the yolk, too late and well, baby won't survive. You can gently use your finger nail, be sure you've scrubbed, where it's starting to zip help it unzip a bit more. Just go around the shell a bit so it's kinda hinged only on one side. Let baby do the rest. Keep an eye on it, it'll flail around a bit until it's free. If anything is still attached to it's bottom, leave it and let it dry and absorb. If it's still chirping and fighting leave it be, only help if it's getting too tired. Trust your gut, you'll know when it's time. And if you lose it don't feel bad. Just do your best, stay calm and know that sometimes it's not meant to be. Good luck!:)

Thank you so much for your advice. I gently unzipped her and she finally pushed out. She was pretty scary-looking for a couple of hours (she's my first chick ever so maybe they are supposed to look that way!) but now she looks more like a chick though her toes seem to be bending in all the wrong places. I hope she makes it because it looks like she's an 'only.' (None of the other eggs hatched).

Job well done! :bow
I'm sure her toes are fine, they're usually a bit funny looking till they get better at walking. But if you'd like post of pic of its feet while standing and I'll let you know what I think. Not that I'm an expert mind you...
And I'm sorry the others didn't hatch. My goose is a loner to for the moment.
