And then there was five...

Is lil fatty tidbits of beef(unseasoned and everything. I cook things completely plain in a pan of pam then dip them in sauces later) too rich for newborn baby peeps? If so I guess I can just feed it to my adults XD

Holy cow are they smart

Just went in there to give them a lil dish(baby foot container lid) of water and they already figured out the water bottle

So I awoke this morning and thought to myself, "lockdown this evening".

I grab my morning coffee and head out into the garage to feed my 3 week old chicks.

I pass the incubator on my way to their pen...and do a double take.

It was like coming downstairs the day before Christmas...and finding out that one of the presents had unwrapped itself a little early.

Yippee, Charles! That is exciting!! Do you hand turn your eggs?

I'm still at 3 chicks this morning, with no signs of pips in the other 5 eggs. Part of me really wants to candle...there were several (4?) that I candled on Day 19 that looked to be only Day 14 or so, and appeared to still be alive and well. I think the hens pulled a fast one on me and got those in there before I marked all 8 eggs with pencil x's. Next time I'll actually number/date them, too.

The little black chickie appears to be out of a BLRW mama...it's black with a rusty head. It's dad, however, is a BOxRIR cross, and I noticed this a.m. that it's tiny little comb looks pointy like it'll inherit the daddy's comb. I'm also wondering, since the tiny comb was noticible, whether this little one is a male. Hmm...time will tell.

This is so fun! I almost want to do it again straight away! I have plenty of nice eggs on the counter still. I'd just need to find a broody...or give BLRW another try (since she wasn't floppy-broody until a few days ago). I don't know where I would put another broody mama/chicks, though. Whoa, girl!

Ahaha I noticed that too. I bet if you reach your hand under her you'll pull back a bloody stump with a look like that. Ahhh... if looks could kill...
