Once they find a food source they’ll keep coming back like any other predator. Try Lowe’s... they have snake repellent that you put on the ground.

I ordered some more ortho snake away snake repellant when I found the 2 in the run. What I had put out washed away in the rain. I was just hoping it would have been out long enough that the snakes would have given up.

First ever 100% hatch rate. Yes I know iy's only 2, but I need a victory today

The first order I placed that just hatched was from foxfirepapillons (I have had really good luck with her eggs - had great development and hatch rates with both sets of eggs I got from her and they are always packaged well). This second batch that I just ordered is from blue-ribbon_farms .
I need to do another post in the breed forum, but just a warning that the genetics of these Legbars seem to be all over the place. In fact at this point I'm suspecting that there's an Ameraucana back there a bit more recent than the original birds that went to make up the breed. I've got one pullet without a crest, one "pullet" that turned out to be a 'roo, a couple of them have muffs, and one appears to have a beard. I'm not too bothered as I wasn't after exhibition birds or birds for breeding, I just wanted some good egglayers of pretty eggs.

My best bird does have nice coloring, a good crest and no muffs or beard. That said it's also possible that one of the gentleman's other roosters went "walkabout" because as I recall many of the pens weren't totally enclosed. Even while I was there he had to eject a "visiting" rooster from one of them. I did get the idea that this was an uncommen occurrance, but it is possible. Although I don't recall there being any Ameraucanas there. It's a mystery.

Thanks for the heads up. My CCL eggs from him just arrived yesterday. Can't say I am overly impressed with the shipping. He used a sticky back bubble wrap to wrap the eggs individually which when removed, left a residue on the eggs. He packaged 7 of the individually wrapped eggs in a small box with 1 layer of larger bubble wrap around them. And that was it...no 2nd box to help protect them. The box arrived with a big dent in the middle (something had been dropped on it. The 2nd egg I unwrapped had slime on it, so I knew I had broken eggs. 3/7 were broken. I still have to candle them to see what the air cells look like, but not holding my breath on the remaining 4. :(

Can't say I'm terribly surprised. The set-up was more of a "good ol' country boy" type of arrangement more than anything else. Pisgah is really getting into Appalachia as it is. I want more chicks or eggs I won't be going back. I would like a "Crested Cream Legbar" to you know, look like a Crested Cream Legbar.

Any idea what happened??
I have no clue because he looks fine, like no injuries or anything. 😭 I went to let them free range today and found him laying there in the coop 😭 my dad didn’t hear him crow this morning either.

I’m thinking maybe it was the heat? Because it was crazy hot yesterday and the day before, like 97 with 105 heat indexes/feels like and he was a big fluffy oaf but idk for sure. Either that or the Mareks finally caught up with him but the other birds both showed symptoms and he was 100% normal until yesterday. 😭😭 maybe he ran around too much :(

We are all so sad because we all loved him so much, even my parents.
