July Hatch-a-Long (including 4th of July hatch-a-long)

Can I ask what area? I have had so many issues with boxes leaving my post office and sitting in a warehouse here in Ohio for a week that I've withdrawn my ebay listings for a while and am only doing local egg sales.

If it helps any, my Bieles went out of Chicago Fri afternoon and I'm waiting for the mail lady to pull up any minute now. There was even shipping activity listed for them on Sunday, which I did not expect.
I think mine went from Chicago south to Nashville though, not through Columbus. I have noticed whenever I get something going through Columbus (books, fabrics, supplies, whatever) it just always takes longer.

Over the last month or so, any eggs that I have ordered from the Carolina's/Kendtucky area have been shook up really bad or broken even with good packaging. I have had pretty good luck with eggs coming from Ohio. The only major issue was my Olive egger eggs that took 7 days to get to me - but it appears that they sat at the post office of origon for 3 days before they went to a distribution center. That was a while ago as those chicks are a couple weeks old now. The Call Duck eggs I just ordered are 1 day long for priority (on day 4 since dropped off at the post office today - but look like they should be out for delivery today).

Well my Bieles arrived!

I had a bad feeling when the mail lady had not come up to the house by 1, so I drove down to the mailbox (long steep driveway) and sure enough....they were shoved in there...on their sides...despite being clearly marked all over the white box in neon orange! Grrr....
Thank goodness it's been partly shady today and the box wasn't too hot.

11 eggs and just a quick peek...all are whole, though one looks to have a crack, and no rolling air cells. However quite a few saddled cells and almost all looked a little jiggly.
They are smaller and more oblong than I though so that would make propping them upright and turning like an upright turner does much easier. They are resting now.
After they rest I plan to take a good look with a brighter light, seal the cracked one, and maybe weight them.

Do jigglies re-attach themselves if left upright for a few days?
What about saddled cells? I have a horizontal turner...would that make the saddles worse or better?

UGH!! USPS strikes again! I was expecting 3 packages of eggs today....and only 2 arrived. So I hopped on and checked tracking info. The 3rd set of eggs had made it to the Omaha, NE distribution center yesterday......and then arrived in ARIZONA today!!! What the heck! How could they mess up an in-state transfer!?!?

That sinks! Too many people just don't care about anything or get how they would feel if someone did their actions to them.

I'd mark the jigglies and see how they go. I don't think I've ever had one completely free air cell egg hatch and rarely even start to develop. If the yolk is broken even worse as those ones are the ones that like to start rotting pretty quickly so keep a nose and eye on them. Whatever you decide to do - upright or on the side - I'll be interested to hear how they go and wish you good luck! The saddles have a good chance of righting themselves during incubation.

I have thought about quail, I'll have to do some research. Sounds like your business is doing well, it's hardly work when you do what you love

Ugh! I'm sorry. UPSP is just sucking lemons lately.... Nebraska to AZ....er, wrong way big time.
I once mailed a very special memory quilt to someone who had lost her DH and didn't know it was coming...and I nearly lost my mind. It only had to go from VA to TX. It went all over the US including NY and Chicago...twice...and took nearly two weeks to arrive.
Thank goodness it did finally arrive as it was a one of a kind item.

I've started thinking about quail too.

You won’t regret quail... well unless you don’t have the right space... then you might regret them because they start fighting like crazy especially males. I have yet to experience this with mine.
