Thank you! Missed that one haha good to know. I’ll just put it in the fridge then think 8 is a bit much anyway lol

And yup! For sure! She ran off again cause I was holding her while I counted all the eggs

But I’m sure she’ll be back lol she didn’t like me holding her or it taking so long and when I tried to put her back down on the eggs, she took off

I’m done messing with her now though haha

I don’t think she will steal any more because she left the other 3. Also one of the eggs was somewhat sticking out a tiny bit so I think 8 might be a bit much for her to cover so probably better I took it.

Oh and the other EE egg is definitely from a different hen!

Doubtless, but I've got too many irons in the fire as it is. It is, however, on the "to do. . . someday" list.

So like I said, the yellow one hatched sometime overnight.
Naturally I took a few pictures after getting home

The eggs arrived. Each was wrapped individually with bubble wrap, then the carton was also bubble wrapped. The shipper also added an extra egg.

The air cells are small and intact! I couldn't ask for more. The eggs were warm and since they're in such great condition I went ahead and put them in the incubator.

This hatch is finishing up. my OE rooster who loves only my barred bantam hen has their first son and one of the two developing Welsummers has hatched and I'm confident it's a cockerel which is just what I wanted. I have left the second Welsummer egg in the incubator hoping it will still hatch

My broody hen that accepted 2 hour old chicks on Saturday has now accepted an hour old chick today! I didn’t think she would but she pecked it once and since the chick was still wet and tired from hatching it just took it and went back to lying down. And she let it walk to her and she didn’t peck it and now she’s sitting on top of it with the others!

I’m gonna try it with the others that hatch but I won’t be as hopeful as I was with this one since her older chicks will be 4 days older than they are today.

Oh and the two eggs I thought were quitters were in fact quitters. So I have 9 more left to hatch.

Question: Just candled my eggs due soon to go on lockdown and it seems that the air cells on them are a bit larger than what I am used to seeing. Of course I don't have pictures. Could you guys point me to some resources on air cell size? I am finding some in the forums using the search feature but nothing really helpful. I will keep looking, but if you know of any good ones off the bat I would be happy if you wouldn't mind sharing.

They draw down a LOT. Mine do, anyway. Then they hatch. Don't worry. Nothing you can do anyway.
