Thanks. I cried for a bit yesterday. I’m a bit better today. No life not being able to move and you can’t even enjoy being a chicken. My husband said a prayer for her before we turned her to ashes. We cremate all our layer flock chickens if they pass away. It feeds the earth.
I've always cremated my pets when they pass away. When we lost a chick the week before last, I struggled not really knowing what to do with it afterwards. Somehow the idea of just tossing it in the trash was too distasteful to me. I love the idea that you feed them back to the earth. So sorry for the loss of your special girl.

So sorry about the loss of your sweet chicken. :hugsI like the idea of cremating them. My kids insist on burying them and having a funeral.

We cremate them in a big bonfire and say a prayer... they make a pop noise and we say they’ve been released into chicken heaven. It’s actually peaceful for me doing it that way.

Quail have a new home/aviary since I’m done with chickens till next year

There are still some young chicks with the quail but they’ll be gone once I can sex them. We have a kennel for cockerels and pullets go into our large run.

So I did have a chick when I got home yesterday and then another one this morning. The eggs I put in the other incubator are still doing good too. I’m so happy some of these made it. But I have to say this staggered hatch thing is nuts! I never know for sure when they are going to hatch! :idunno :wee
Candle them every night. Then you'll know. ❤️

I put this in the August hatch, but they should be hatching in July. Blue Footed Booby got impatient or thought these chicks were dead. They were very slow moving when I opened the air cells. I put antibiotic ointment on the membranes last night and was waiting to see if I could assist.

Well this Little Booger internally pipped while I was gone today! Looks like my polish crosses will be okay after all. Even after the nest was abandoned for a whole night and day.
