Thank you :hugs I think it was from the heat because it was like 97 with 105 heat index/feels like both yesterday and Monday and yesterday was also very humid so I think it was just too much for a big fluffy Orpington. :( we are all devastated because we loved him so much. We buried him and had a little funeral 😂🙈 corny, I know.
There is nothing corny about honoring that whom you love. I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I have no clue because he looks fine, like no injuries or anything. 😭 I went to let them free range today and found him laying there in the coop 😭 my dad didn’t hear him crow this morning either.

I’m thinking maybe it was the heat? Because it was crazy hot yesterday and the day before, like 97 with 105 heat indexes/feels like and he was a big fluffy oaf but idk for sure. Either that or the Mareks finally caught up with him but the other birds both showed symptoms and he was 100% normal until yesterday. 😭😭 maybe he ran around too much :(

We are all so sad because we all loved him so much, even my parents.
I am so sorry to hear about Jack! He was a beautiful boy! :hugs:hugs

Well, I'm late it seems, sorry about that. My broody hatched out her eggs on the 24th, a day early. 6 surviving chicks, and one very surprising silver-grey one out of my Dominique crosses!

I had 7 eggs that were developing at day seven. Unfortunately, day 7/8, one of the eggs cracked. It didn't pierce the membrane, so I tried patching it with paper and Elmer's glue. When the chick started absorbing calcium, the shell became even weaker and more brittle. The cracks worsened on day 15 to the point where they went all the way around the shell. I used paper towel and super glue to try and hold it together. Day 18, and I'm waiting anxiously for an early pip. The egg is now really crushed, even the outer membrane had been pierced. But at day 19, the little fellow pips! And in the morning of day 20, I find him with his siblings under my broody hen. Unfortunately, it looked like he either pushed himself out too early or something else wen't wrong, but in the end his yolk didn't quite fully absorb properly. Never really opened his eyes and was real quiet. I wonder if he had an infection going from when he was in the shell? Anyway, some pics.

After super glue (day 15). You can't see it very well in this photo, but there is a fairly decent indentation and a crack that goes all the way around.

Early day 19. Notice how cracked his shell is, it had cracked like this the day before. Luckily, he managed to pierce the inner membrane and begin breathing.

Finally, day 20 and he's out! But he didn't make it. :(

What is really surprising to me is that he managed to make it so far. I would have expected a mid-term death from infection, around days 10-14.

Anyhow, here is a more encouraging picture. Notice the silver-grey one, she is a DOM x Production Blue cross. Unexpected as the others were all black (with the white barring spot on their heads of course). One chick hatched with a naked neck (but he is under Mom in this photo).

Well, that was a long post. These chicks will probably go to my friend. But I now have what looks like another broody, so another hatching adventure! Hopefully no cracked eggs this time.
