July Hatch-A-Long

I have my first baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It just finished coming out of the shell. I did a no-no and had my husband lift the lid long enough for me to snap a picture and take the shell. I have 34 eggs in an incubator that will hold 41. I have an egg turner in it. Was I supposed to take that out? I don't know if they will have enough room as they hatch. I see pips on a few other eggs. One pipped at the same time or earlier than the hatchling I have right now. I can see its little beak sticking out the hole. Earlier I saw its eye up to the hole and blinking so it was alive at around 7PM, but there hasn't been movement since it stuck its beak tip out the hole. Am I supposed to do anything to help it or will it figure it out or die? I want to help it out, but I'm pretty sure that is a BIG no-no.

Anyway I'm excited to have at least 1 hatch. I figured it up and thought they wouldn't hatch till tomorrow or Saturday, so I'm happy happy happy to have one already.

Another question:
Am I supposed to remove this little guy after he is dried off? If the others don't hatch till Saturday then he will have needed food and water by then.

Thanks for all your help.

I am really happy with the new brooders I just built. The chicks should fit in them for the first two to three weeks and they are easy to clean up. Best of all the cats really love the show through the plexiglass doors.
I'll have to wait until the 28th to have enough little ones around to fill both! The 41 Keets in the incubator are due to hatch around then.

Super nice!!

Remembering our foundation, our founding fathers, and of course..God. My belief. :)

Also thinking of our troops and their families, thank you for all you do!

I have my first little chick too, none of the rest have done anything. But I am still holding out hope, and at least mommy has one.
I also want to ask how long the new baby can go with out food and water.

Hey congrats! First yes you should have taken out the turner but since you did not you need to keep an extra close watch on them! They will get caught in it and die! Second yes remove the chicks after they are alert and dry I wouldn't personally go over 6 hours! And lastly I have had to help many chicks hatch they sometimes get shrink wrapped in the egg if you open it and lose humidity and will eventually die! I had to help two last night! Just take a needle or a long finger nail and chip away where the chick would normally pip making sure not to get the clear bottom layer around the chick! If you rip this and its still to early it will bleed! You can see the veins usually and common sense tells you to stop or not start lol If you see no veins in the bottom clear layer around the chick I would go ahead! After you get the shell off where he would normally pip then gently take the clear layer off his head! Normally if you get it off his head he will go ahead and hatch within the hour! If he hasn't with in an hour or two help him a little more, but each time u open it spray hot water in or put a warm paper towel in to keep the humidity up! If he does start bleeding wrap him in a moist warm paper towel and stick him back in and wait a couple more hours! Sometimes no matter what we do though they won't make it! Good luck! If a chick has pipped do not open the incubator or chances are it'll most likely get stuck (unless its absolutely necessary like to get a chick out which u may need to do sooner to keep it from being squashed by your turner!) The last 3 days your supposed to take out the turner and let the eggs rest so the chicks can start turning by themselves to prepare to hatch! Sorry this is not very in order its 2:00 am and I just wanted to give you some quick advice lol Let me know how it goes!

I now have two baby ducklings. The third one broke thru the shell yesterday. It looks like the membrane may be drying out. What should I do? It's been that way for 15 hours now. I don't want to open the incubator unless I have to. Can anyone advise me on what I should do?

I have 6 eggs on their third day of Lockdown and still no pipping and also I set 14 eggs in my homemade stryofoam incubator on the 30th, I sure I get something I haven't had any luck at all, I have had two chicks die so far:( One that hatched with assistance and the other was internally pipped but thats it, and it was completely developed:(

The bun was born sometime since 11 p-m last night. Has 5 litter mates. Mom was thought to be male and was in with her brother litter-mates. Yep Now I have to get at least 4 more Doe hutches built. Mom and babies are in a buck cage that we had silkies for isolation.
