July Hatch-A-Long

lol...paralyzed over the bator right? I am done hatching for this year. It's so strange. I don't have any eggs to turn. It feels weird. I hope this feeling passes soon.

Still have those little ones in the house that I just hatched. That helps. They will go out soon. It's soo warm outside, they will do fine in the nursery. I won't even have to put a light on them. We were 102 the other day! Whew..I hope when we get back down into the low 90's again this weekend, we stay there for a while. Still have our hot August to get through.

Yes, never saw everything like this happen right under my nose, it is great.
It is cold here, all of a sudden, with rain, rain, rain. Glad I've got something to watch inside. It feels indeed as an addiction, a good one that is.

I am however a bit nervous of this bunch of drunken football (soccer) players kicking the eggs and the empty shells around. All the Brahmas hatched a day early, the others are still pipped or nothing. Is it really better to keep the fluffies ones in de incubator? They so healthy and active en keep on running over the just hatched etc! I would love to put them in the brooder.

I had a broody buff hen and adopted a few fertile eggs from a friend-hatched yesterday-a bit of a mixed family :)

Well my last 12 for the year are in the incubator. Only 2 out of 21 hatched last time. I did not know to leave them in the incubator to dry... Duh I shrunk wrapped all the rest!

Lucky those two hatched for the number of times I opened the thing to add or remove sponges with the humidity spikes. And I had it running too hot, lost power, then took the whole tray out to try and candle (inexperienced).

This time it stays shut. When 75%hatched or three days after first then will quickly tip lid to remove. Won't move the whole lid off to the side!Live and learn. My first year with artificial incubation. But didn't have any broodies.

I'm new to hatching and on my second hatch... Last time didn't turn out too well, my temperature and humidity was off and only hatched one white keet out of 18 eggs. Now I'm equipped with a new digital thermometer and hydrometer :) 24 RIR eggs on day 6 now... I'm going to try my hand at candling tomorrow and mark the eggs I think are fertile but keep them all, at least for a while. As dark as the eggs are and as inexperienced as I am, I would hate to throw out a developing chick. Hoping for hatching on the 20th :)

Cute babies! They are popping out like popcorn! :) I personally take mine out as they hatch. Let them dry in the bator. No problems here when I do. I just make it quick!

I'll be just a tad behind you on expected hatch days.....If I figured correctly the 22nd is lock down. (Went in incubator late on the 4th + 18 days = 22) And should begin piping or hatching on 25 evening.

Experienced incubators.... did I count that correctly? Or is that 23rd lock down and 26th beginning piping?

At any rate I will know how well I did (also a new digital temp/humidity gauge) by the 29th. This time I am recording each turn (rotating something under edges of incubator as a turner) what the temp/humidity fluctuations are. Not even going to try and candle them.

Giving thanks to God for Fred hatching my eggs for me until these last two batches and doing a test on my gauge that came with it to find out it was reading low (thus it was too hot first round). He purchased for me (yes I paid him) a decent gauge and tested calibrated it and put a range sticker on it for my target heat to maintain. He has been such a wonderful/patient teacher and helped me figure out what I had done wrong.

So now I pray hard all adjustments have worked and I get a decent hatch of Nelsons. Then next year I will be ready for breeding season!!!

Got my last batch going now. Not sure exactly when they will hatch. Didn't even write down when I set them. Looks close though. Got lazy. Lol. My own mixed eggs. Like I said last batch of this year I think

So I got my hatching eggs and I wasn't expecting them yet!!! :O

Letting them rest for 24 hrs before setting. Checking incubator temp now, aiming for 99.5. Gotta go read what humidity should be at. I got a still air incubator. Also got an egg turner.

it would be a borrow to keep they are week old chicks
and ok it would be ok if they imprint because I want to keep which ever chick hatches
