July Hatch-A-Long

One pip so far. But trying to use a food dehydrator was a disaster and these eggs were started there. I could have had 2x as many chick's if I hadn't gotten greedy trying to hatch more at a time. Oh well live and learn. Then again I might have just had the temp too high. Either way just going to stick with the brinsea. Perfect hatches, versus quarter hatches. Easy choice. I set 22 eggs I get 22 chick's in the brinsea. In the dehydrator I set 60 and am lucky to end up with 18 in the end.

My broody is mostly standing over her eggs today. I thought they might be hatching today but maybe tomorrow. I picked one up and it felt hot... that little chick is generating some real heat. I could worry but I think I will just expect to see 7 tiny little faces soon : )

My first hatch! The first is full Buff Orpington and the second is 1/2 Buff Orpington 1/2 White Leghorn. Crossing my fingers for at least one more baby. We had one empty egg and I checked the last, looks like a late bloomer, but who knows.

So my paint/porcelain pen broody has hatched 10/15. She's off her eggs so I stuck the remaining eggs under another broody and switched out those eggs, placing her original eggs under another broody that has been sharing duties with her (confusing, I know) anyway- one out of the 10 is a bit spraddle leg and is not looking very good. It's not drinking much or eating and moving very little, while it's siblings are already running amuck at only 2 days old. I have brought it inside with a sibling and trying to save it, I've got them under the heat lamp w water + electrolytes and food. The healthy chick is not happy we took it away from mom and won't stop peeping but the sickly one is just laying there, barely there. Is there anything else I can do?

I don't have much experience with the spraddle leg issue, but I honestly think you're doing all you can. I hope it all works out for you.
