JUNE 1st Hatch: Were locked and hatching!!!!!!!!!!

OK I have a plan:

When I get Hermione off for her 'comfort break', I'm going to snatch 5 eggs, and run to my upstairs bathroom which has no windows.
Candle them all and then get them back into the nest before she gets back on. (I throw her out twice a day for 10 mins on the kitchen timer!)

Then I can do the other 5 on the next break in the afternoon.

Waiting til tomorrow which will be Day 8.

OK so I wasn't going to candle until lock-down. I just candled on day 7.

It appears that out o 8 shipped blue orpingtons I have 8 developing.

This is much better than my first hatch. Almost half of my first eggs were clear. I know shipped eggs are a gamble, but I feel much better about these eggs. Thank you tazcat70 you did a fabulous packing job and all your eggs are fertile.

Sorry, KogersClutch, for not answering you about the difference between blue orpingtons and lavender. I guess I don't know for sure the difference. I know that lavenders breed true and blues you get a percentage blue, splash, and white. Please correct me if I am wrong. I think both blues and lavs are beautiful. I can hardly wait for my hatch.

Wow! That's great

How far did your shipped eggs have to travel? My last hatch just shipped from one end of the state to the other and did well, 9 out of 16 hatched! But this time I ordered from 2 different breeders 5 states away and their doing poorly

I expected this but it feels bad anyhow!! My first eggs put in the bator are 8 days along and out of 15 I have already had one clear and 3 quitters and 4 others look questionable. 7 are going strong with chicks bobbing up and down in them~ so cute!

My second batch of eggs came yesterday with two broken, one cracked and lots of broken air cells

I don't have much hope of a good hatch out of them! I have BLRW, Black Wyandottes and Blue Wyandottes, and your right~ Blue does not breed true.

Hey chickee my eggs went pretty far. They came from Kansas and I live in WA. I think the packing job was great and all the eggs looked good. My first hatch I had 24 eggs from Arkansas. I have 9, 12 day old chicks from that hatch. Those eggs all arrived unbroken, but the egg were not good size and some were bumpy. Most of the eggs were clear and I had a few quitters.

Who knows if it is the breeders quality or just the trip the eggs have. Maybe just a combination of it all. Oh yeah perhaps some luck is involved.

You know me .... I'm a hatchin' fool !

My Sportsman is full and I have eggs coming tomorrow. I am gonna have to put them in the HovaBators until it is time for lockdown on the first lot. Then I can switch them out. I use the HovaBators as hatchers. I am not keeping many from these hatches. Most of these will be sold (if I can bear to part with them

) ...

Here is my hatch from yesterday .... I have 3 broodies, all due this week. I took 6 chicks (3 from broody #1 and 3 from #2) and put them all with #1. Then, I put all the unhatched eggs with broody #2 to finish out. #3 hasn't started yet (maybe tomorrow) ... The chicks are all Delawares. This broody is a Black Cochin first time mama.
