June 2021 Hatch - A - Long

It’s day four, and I candled some quail eggs. I saw positive things in the first two (it looked like development), cracks in the third, and finally veining in the fourth. I wrapped a washcloth around the flashlight. I’m really not wanting to spend the $ on a new candler.

Don’t let anyone tell you the law of your coop. I can do things in my coop others can’t. You need to do what feels right.

My incubator "Little Giant" was on it's second setting, and I noticed the turners were not working.

The broody would be in a dog crate that I've wrapped 3 sides with feed bags. She won't willingly leave the nesting box at all. Would that be better? By the time they(Dodo's) hatch the OG Momma hen and chicks should be in my main coop.

Well I wish I would have moved her last night as she and another hen seem to have had an altercation in the nest. I ended up moving all the eggs and placed her on them. She settled on them after a few minutes. I hope she stays and hasn't been off them long enough for any hatch issues.

Help! One of the eggs broke and now there is dried egg on the other eggs. Should I clean them? If so how? Should I toss the contaminated ones instead?

It was pretty much cement. At best I would have gotten the towel stuck. I ended up replacing the eggs.

I am going to ask, but I might regret it. Did anyone here lose an incubator filled with eggs last night? I heard through someone on an online game that was told by another that
an incubator failed. I’m full of questions now!

I did not but just found a 4 ft rat snake in the nesting box I just moved Dodo from!! He went home hungry. Dodo on the other hand can't seem to keep all her eggs under her and we lost 3. Starting to get discouraged but only time will tell.
