Two Silkie eggs made it lockdown and one's hatched day 19.

I didn't have chick starter so asked the Mr to pick some up a small bag on the way home. He got that plus two Silkie cross chicks just in case the other egg doesn't hatch, My other eggs aren't due for a week and a half so worse case he has some buddies until then

and her molting...

She did win last year's molt contest.
Some lady said..."You should separate her from the other hens so she doesn't get picked on." I said..."I would not do that, she is the boss hen."
Oh, Fancy Nancy :love I love her plumage just as much as her talent for getting the gold medal for worst molt.
She’s an ALLSTAR in my mind.

Late update: I got two chicks from the 3 eggs in incubator. The last egg quit around day 19 I figured. I did an eggtopsy and took pics. Is there a better place to post that rather than derail this thread?

Was finally dark enough to candle, all but one egg were clearly gone. Most were just yolk, but so hard to see since they’re olives. The only developed one was soooooo tiny, but looked fully feathered! Not like the usual mid incubation quitters, but looked perfectly proportioned, developed, etc and just miniature. Wish I’d bagged that separately, I would be a cool pic to show my girls. The last egg I left in looks like it internally pipped, but couldn’t see movement

I personally think it’s educational toward the goal of improving hatches ( :( *sigh*) … I have ~3 eggs that I’ve reluctantly pulled and can’t bring myself to investigate yet.

It’s been an emotionally difficult month with those hatchling deaths >2 weeks ago, and only one incubator baby hatching & growing since then. I love him to bits!! He likes to snuggle on the back of my neck all in my hair! :jumpy But he’s growing little wings and needs some friends.
