June 2023 Hatch-a-long

Pics
I had 6 quail hatch. it was a rough hatch! some needed help. The last one was so weak it couldn't stand and wouldn't open its eyes, was sticky so I had to wash it off. I left it in the incubator and gave it a few drops of sugar water and nutridrench off my finger a few times last night. tried to put it in a cup for overnight since it kept tipping to the side and would just kick its feet. well it made its way OUT of the cup somehow! so got one a bit bigger and got it settled and went to bed. Figured would see what happened this morning. got up and it wasn't in the cup anymore. It was beside it laying down. Wasnt' sure if dead or alive... well it was alive, eyes opened and ready to go! still a tiny bit slower than the others but can run around now and open its eyes. So I put it in the brooder and will hope for the best. I did loose one of them though. :( I think it was an error on my part but as of now I still have 5. They are soooo stinking tiny and cute!

I hear chirping!
Candled briefly yesterday and the dark egg was completely full, no movement so I thought it was dead but left it in bc no odor.
So glad I did! No ext pip yet.
Other egg looks unchanged but there was movement.
Little Chance may have a playmate soon- poor guy is thriving but so pathetically lonely.

I don't put chicks on wood chips just because they get confused on whether or not it is food. I put them on second hand table place mats, and put the food right on top.

Now im waiting in the other eggs,
24 of those are left right now, just took 3 quitters out.
They are on day 19 with one internal pip from a BCM so far.
That first iternal pip literally just started to unzip before my eyes 👀.
And not including the one unzipping, 6 other pips- But let me tell you about 2 of them- One pipped the wrong end (like complete opposite) and one pipped right outside the air pocket.
Day 20.
Also, one of my broodys who I gave eggs to, I decided to give her some of the chicks from the previous batch. She took them so her 5 eggs are on lockdown with these other ones- 3 of hers are apart of the 6 who have pipped so far.

Heard. I put paper towel on shavings and crumble on that. the brooder bottom is a dog crate pan and has a crack- needed a brooder in a pinch so this is it.
