June hatch-a-long!

I was wondering where my Silver Spangled Hamburg was laying her eggs and my neighbour came over and said that a few of our hens were laying in his coop and there were three of the SSH eggs there!

I'm hoping at least one was laid yesterday and it's fertilized. Eeeeekkkk I can't wait!!

There’s Jessie in the food bucket... silly chicken. That’s the hen who is hatching the eggs.

And the other food bucket (holding the rabbits food) Ivory has taken a liking to so that’s where she is temporarily.

Okay so temptation gave in and I checked the eggs.

One egg there was a tiny outline of a red circle inside the egg and when I turned the egg it was moving around.

The other egg it was a bigger red circle. Not filled in on the inside though, just an outline of a circle.

Anyone know what that is? I haven’t hatched in a while.

It sounds like the blood ring. Pretty sure that means fertilized.

I candled my eggs today, they're on about day 8. Sadly though, even with our new Brinsea high power candler, there doesn't seem to be any development in any of them, no veins nothing. My guess is that they are unfertilized. My rooster was out of the coop for a few days but I had been hoping he was active enough to at least fertilize a couple of them once he got back... that was apparently not the case. I might try to hatch again but I am about to make a thread for some answers. I might join the hatch-a-long again at some point in the future but it is undecided what I will do.

Aw, I'm sorry they weren't fertilized. Hopefully the next batch will be!
