June hatch-a-long!

Hopefully I have chicks this weekend I was bad and haven’t been candling so my ACs are small. I run dry but my humidity in the bator is 46%! My other bator is 25% so I moved them there in the meantime. Hopefully I get some babies!

I ordered 10 chicks today from ideal they should be here by the 11th of july and my broodies chicks are due on june 23rd. Do you guys think i can mix the chicks together or would that be a problem?

Good luck to everyone expecting some new fuzzy bottoms this weekend! I started lockdown on the ones in the incubator (one looks normal, pretty sure other is a late quitter). Took the time to candle broody eggs. 3/3 are looking great! One looks less developed than the others, but I am pretty clueless! .
I have never said the weekend is going to go way too slow before!

Have you done Seramas before? I've got 14 out of 22 still going. Due to hatch on Monday.

No, this is my first time, so decided to start small. I also received my 12 Cochin Bantam Eggs (Red, Barred, and Molted). To my surprise they were nice enough to send me 15 eggs. Let's see how many will hatch. The incubator has been used before with great results.

I ended up with 5 eggs under 2 different broodies.... so far the one is doing well sitting the other was on the wrong nest yesterday.... these are the eggs that are due this Saturday.

Would you be mixing them together in a brooder or wanting to put the chicks from ideal under the broodys? I would be very cautious about mixing ages under a broody, a mother of 20+ day olds is unlikely to accept day olds.

In the brooder, some people will say no some will say yes. I would say yes! I've got 3 week olds, 9 day olds and day olds all together in the same brooder with no problems.

I just introduced on neutral territory (a big cardboard box!) with a big bowl of food as a distraction while I was cleaning out the brooder. I reorganised stuff in the brooder to, so when they went it it looked different for the older ones. I kept a close eye but all are fine.

The little ones will snuggle under the big ones and the big ones show the day old show the day olds how to eat and drink. Just make sure you have enough feeders/drinkers so no one gets pushed about.

lol i cant wait for mine

yes i was talking about putting them with the broody and the babies but i think i will just keep them separated because i dont want any to be bullied or killed. id like to keep the chicks that are with the broody with her outside so she could get some experience raising some chicks. thanks for the advice!

My hen broke another egg and it’s all over her! They’re on day 11 and the last time I checked they were developing nicely. We went from 20 to 17 just from my hen breaking the darn things. Luckily it wasn’t a Welsummer or Fayoumi egg though because I’m really excited for those. They’re the obvious eggs out of the bunch and the only ones where I know the hen’s breed. I’ll be candling again on Monday since it’s day 14, then it’s “lockdown” on Friday. I’m also officially out of school so I get to keep an eye on things a little better.

That is so frustrating. I had a hen stomp one of my darkest dark dark marans eggs at day 18. Stupid thing.

It’s crazy! I think the problem is that we put too many eggs under her though. Hopefully no more break after this , it’s getting too close to the hatch date and I don’t want to lose any more of them due to something my hen does.
