June hatch-a-long!

For the people with broodies, how many times do yours leave the nest in a day or in a week and for how long each time do you notice they leave for?

Mine only leaves the nest once/day that I see & for no more than 15 minutes. If she doesn’t come out when I feed I gently take her off the eggs & set her by the food. Then she will eat a little, do some dust bathing, get a drink & head back to the eggs.

I have 4 bantam silkie mixes under a broody hen. She sat on a previous set of eggs until day 11 when I candled & discovered they were yolkers. Swapped them with fresh bantam eggs from a friend. Candled day 7 & at that time saw something happening with two eggs but two looked like they could be nothing. There’s only one white egg so the others are hard to see. On day 12 with this set & trying to wait until day 14 to candle again. My broody had been so dedicated. I really hope we can get at least one chick to hatch for her. I’ve had chickens less than a year so it’s my first time doing any of this & I've been learning along the way. I find it all so fascinating!

I candled the eggs today while the broody was eating. So far it looks like 6 out of 7 are developing. Im going to give the one egg more time because i used the phone flashlight and maybe it wasnt bright enough. So happy!

Mine have always gone once a day every couple days.
