June hatch-a-long!

Pics
Alright, so I'm pretty sure 4 of the last eggs are no good now.

But one is still good! It has pipped internally. Not sure when, but I know it has been like that all day today. How much longer should I give it before thinking of rescuing it?

When I candled it real quick it was moving and its little beak was opening and closing. I really want this one to hatch. It was under the broody for about 4 days. If it hatches I won't be *as* sad that the other 4 are all gone.

Dip in air cell?

I don't know if you can see where I've drawn some lines on this egg. They show the air cell. Maybe you can see where the bottom line is lower on the shell making an oval rather than a circle.

The part that comes further down is the part that needs to face up.

I hope this helps.

I sat down to take a look at the egg a d the chick has tried to pip externally. It is so slight I may have missed it for some time. It's the little star shaped crack in the red circle.

Thing is that this egg never rocks and I've not hear anything from it when I've candled it. Just seen movement and the internal pip.

*fingets crossed* Hope it's fine and hatches well.

Omg!!!!!!! #12 just rocked and I looked and there is an external pip!!!

Guys!!! I am so excited!!! I was sure 12 had gotten shrink wrapped. The membrane was so dang close to it when I candled. If it's ok, then that mean #15 could very likely be okay as well!!

Wait!! Lofl, this is happening as I type. I didn't look at the numbers right. #15 has the nice external pip and jad rocked, but I just saw #12 rock!!

Omg!!! I am so happy!! I really hope they all make it. These 3 were under the broody who gave up and they had poor air cells.

Now if they hatch and if #s 9 and 10 turn out to be ok I'll just cry.

Here's #1's external pip try:

What day is today? I have had chicks hatch 25 & 26 days when under a broody. In an incubator I give til day 23 before I candle, and if you don't see signs of life or external pip, you can water test. If you see any signs of life, return it to the incubator.

With internal pipped chicks that are late, I have made a tiny hike in the air cell end of the egg to make sure the chick doesn't suffocate. But helping a chick is a big gamble. I killed a few before I got it right. Helping too soon is devestating.

There is a great post about assisted hatching if you do a search.

Good luck with your remaining 4!

Ugh, feeling a bit disheartened this morning!

Didn't have a good feeling about egg due to hatch yesterday so candled last night and again this morning. No movement and just didn't look right, the air cell wasn't as big as I'd like and shape of chick looked smaller than it should be.

Performed eggtopsy and chick was dead - looked like it had died maybe day 17/18? I thought I had seen a bit of movement on day 19 but it looked underdeveloped for that.

Candled my 2 broody dorking eggs that are due Thursday last night and they looked great, went to check on her just now and the warren had got in the nest box with her and knocked one the them out and cracked it! So annoying!! I've put it back under her but it was cold, can't have been out from under her for more than an hour though.

Today is now day 22. #1 hatched sometime between 6:15 and 7:15am. #s 15 and 12 are resting right now. Still nothing from 9 and 10. I thought I saw 10 wobble a little but it was hard to tell if that was it or it was just the chick's fumbling around making the tray wiggle.

Did you seal the crack?
