June Hatch A Long

Pics
This is killing me. :he I went ahead and candled the Mallard eggs again and they still look terrible...Only 3 look to have any possibility of being viable, 2 more so than the 3rd but the veins look SO scrambled compared to my chicken eggs. I'm finding myself very concerned about these babies...I feel like this is my first time hatching all over again, lol!
I mean, I know all I can do is wait...but, but, but, :barnie

The duck eggs are in a verticle turner vs the horizontal turner I have the goose and chicken eggs in but other than the development being closer to the air cell I don't recall any eggs previously looking like this.

I read somewhere that is can take up to 3 days for goslings and ducklings to hatch...is that accurate??? Because that's a lot of coffee...lol

Unfortunately yes they will sit and rock forever without doing anything else. Just enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. I have to work this weekend so the live feed camera is going to be the only thing that will help me stay sane while they finish hatching lol.

They look pretty standard for duck eggs. They can look pretty weird. This was these eggs on day 7 so right around when your eggs are.

Went to lock the chickens up. I found a partially developed chick on the floor, checked under Florentine and found 3 broken eggs under her, not including the one of the floor. I'm utterly heartbroken.
Oh I’m so so so sorry. How sad. :(

@HuffleClaw QUAIL ARE SO TINY! Omg. And adorable.

Came across a book in the '90s that suggested that they actually DO do it on purpose. Still remember it, 'cause it makes sense. Babies born in the night are safer from predators and are dried and ready for action when the light sets in. Most night time predators work in dusk and dawn and not in complete darkness, so if they're done with their hatch-chirping when the sun starts to rise, both mother and babies are safer.
Their eyes are fully developed a few days before hatch, so maybe they perceive the outside darkness even from under their mother, or they have some sense of night and day like atmospheric pressure, or maybe some mystical sense we humans don't have. What's certain is that we don't know everything about animals.
fascinating!!!! And totally makes sense.

Just a little sneak peek! I couldn't help myself. I didn't have any pictures from my last candling so I checked on just a couple. Goose eggs are getting harder and harder to see through and the new eggs are just starting to show some nice healthy veins! :love
that legbar egg looks fabulous!

I agree with @LilyD I think duck eggs are weird. I’m so glad all of y’all are hatching ducks before me cause this would be driving me crazy!!!! I have only candles my duck eggs once because they look weird to me and I’m just going with it. But they’ve looked weird since the beginning even the fresh, local ones. I think you can just see SO much. Some of mine look red like something has busted in there, but then I watch videos and they look the same. :-/

@LilyD I am DYING over this wait. I can’t imagine you.

Thank you so much!! You just gave me much needed peace of mind so I can stop hovering over them for a bit longer, lol!

I remember the first time I hatched duck eggs I thought I had screwed up until it came out of the egg on day 35 lol.

jolenesdad I'm going to start pulling my hair out soon they are just too pokey.

LOL! Good to know it's not just me! :lau
I keep checking on your live duck egg feed like they're my own, lol! Some of them are really rocking! :pop

Due to the move? Or just quitters?
Hopefully the ones she’s on now are solid
Due to the move. I worked all day yesterday and when got home at 10pm I went to see how she was doing. All the eggs we're cold so I candled them and they had no movement at all. I checked a few times to be sure but nothing. I just hope she doesn't move again
