Breeder quality barred rocks are SO stunning!!! I’m so glad you joined!I should be receiving my first ever shipped eggs today, so I'll be having a June hatch
They'll be Barred Rocks, as usual. SOP lines that hopefully will improve what I have as far as feather quality/fluffiness.
34 eggs were sent, and it was a long journey, so fingers crossed.
Today a friend brought a dozen eggs for my hatchery stock Cuckoo Maran “Florentine” to hatch. She’s a year old and went broody the first time last Monday. She only accepted 9 eggs, one of them being a Bantam.
This will be the first hatch for our flock, so I’m really excited to see how she does.
She was so precious resting her beak on each egg as I placed it in the nest, chirping softly then rolling the egg under her.
Thats really awesome, i have been dying for a hen of mine to get broody, but they just wont. oh well... lol
She went broody, literally a day before Hoover shipped my order . I went back and forth over whether I should give her eggs or not, when I saw how much of her chest she had plucked I figured she was serious and that kind of pain shouldn’t go unrewarded.
Also I’m a sucker for chicks.
And here I am getting irritated breaking broodies left and rightThats really awesome, i have been dying for a hen of mine to get broody, but they just wont. oh well... lol

Two of my shipped eggs arrived broken, so I have 32 to go in tomorrow morning. They've been floated, sanitized, candled, and are now resting peacefully in cartons. Air cells are mobile, but none are busted up or stuck on the side, so here's hoping they do well. I think I'll leave the turner off for a couple days after I put them in and then start them turning.

I know. It was a little disappointing last hatch most of my failures to hatch made it all the way to lockdown. :-( I missed the memo in all of my research that shipping damage causes embryo deaths both early and just as much late.I still have yet to try hatching shipped eggs. I'm so afraid of the heartbreak that I'm going out of my way on this mini road trip to pick up hatching eggs. Lol! I figure that they have to be better off on the ride in my car rather than the postal system.
