I know in Orps Lavender is a sex controlled color so if you have a Male that is Black and female that is lavender you would get a Male chick that would be black but split to lavender so their babies if bred to lavender would be 50% lavender. Not sure how it would work the other way around or even if it works the same in other poultry.
Apparently in ducks lavender (and lilac) is a combination of the blue (BL) gene and sex linked chocolate (d) gene. Interesting that it works that way in orpingtons. Sounds easier! I would love to have not mainly blue's this year but some blacks heehee..
