June Hatch A Long

Oh & from what I could see earlier it looked like....this will sound odd, but like there is an umbilical cord ?? attached to him, that ends in the yolk.

The cord is normal and once the yolk sac is fully absorbed you may still see it sticking out of the navel. That's what we were thinking you saw this morning before you confirmed it was the yolk sac. The cord will dry and fall off naturally.

Okay, good ! So the yolk is supposed to be at the end of the cord then, correct ?

The yolk should be going into the abdomen where there is a navel that will close and the cord is under that and attached to the membrane. It usually falls off during hatch but does occasionally hold on and can just dry and fall off naturally. What you see near the bottom of the cord is egg waste.

OMG I think I messed up then ! He has nothing except the cord on his belly, but the end of that cord looks exactly like a yolk ? It's a yellow blob ? Is that normal for egg waste ? I'm soooo confused now

I just looked at the " yolk " ( or so I thought ) & it does look greenish now ! I think that he may have the cord still, I know he did earlier...is it safe for me to remove him from the cup & check ?
Don’t worry you messed up and speed things up or get nervous. You didn’t do anything wrong even if the yolk is absorbed you are simply keeping him safe!

Yes, go ahead and look at his tummy. If the navel is closed but with the thin cord hanging out then he's ready to come out of the egg. You can leave the cord hanging and break the shell off around the part of the cord that is still attached to the shell or pinch the cord closer to the shell with tweezers and snip it, both ways are to prevent any bleeding.
