June Hatch-A-Long

That’s a long standing issue with marans. They’re probably not missing a toe, it’s likely fused together. It’s a reason I go back and forth all the time with whether or not I want to work with the breed. If it is just fused webbing, the consensus is to snip it at day old chick age. They should not be used for breeding.

unfortunately most breeders just cull the webbed toe offspring from breeding flocks. I personally think that’s not enough as the breeder birds who put out fused toes should be culled. However, that’s probably something that cannot be done with such a pervasive issue in a breed with limited imports to trace lineage to. It’s likely something that came with the imported breeding flock.
My marans came out perfect 🤞🏼Hopefully these other 12 are the same way!

Sounds like my eggs. If this Cochin chick is black I’ll flip my lid 😂 I’ve been trying to get Cochin Deathlayers, but Squatch is still hanging on!

He won’t let go 🤣 It’s like ha-ha I’m here forever.

I wouldn’t mind so much if White Leghorns weren’t so tiny. Because I will be eating the boys but WL roos are tiny!! Haha

I have white leghorn pullets. They’re hilarious. I’m really liking the breed. I’ve never had them before.

Im hoping to cross them with my Deathlayer to see what the offspring looks like.

Anyone ever have a duck sit on chicken eggs?

My Muscovy is now broody and she’s on chicken eggs. Can she care for chicken chicks?
She can hatch them but most don’t let them brood them as they will try and lead them to water. If she doesn’t have swimming water it is probably okay?
