My marans came out perfectThat’s a long standing issue with marans. They’re probably not missing a toe, it’s likely fused together. It’s a reason I go back and forth all the time with whether or not I want to work with the breed. If it is just fused webbing, the consensus is to snip it at day old chick age. They should not be used for breeding.
unfortunately most breeders just cull the webbed toe offspring from breeding flocks. I personally think that’s not enough as the breeder birds who put out fused toes should be culled. However, that’s probably something that cannot be done with such a pervasive issue in a breed with limited imports to trace lineage to. It’s likely something that came with the imported breeding flock.
