I LOVE BUCKSKINS!!!!

my mom has a champagne. Her name naturally is Mimosa. 🤣

yes! If you see blue it can give blue!

Black x black = 100% black
Blue x black = 50% blue, 50% black
Blue x blue = 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash
Black X splash = 100% blue
Blue x splash = 50% blue, 50% splash
Splash x splash = 100 % splash.
Mimosa....great name!
I was always like meh on buckskins. I grew up with different western-y breeds, appys included, but later worked mainly with the big warmbloods and got used to the darker typical colors of the English disciplines.

When it was time to get another horse I just knew I wanted a loud splashy something. MFT, SSH, TWH (natural shod) ...you know, something that would make a statement out on the trail. Was soooo not expecting a little buckskin gelding to steal my heart.
Now, I've come to appreciate his golden new copper penny summer coat and the winter golden retriever in disguise look. Though, truth be told...he thinks he is a golden retriever most of the time.

Thank you for the color break down. It's so much easier when it's not surrounded by genetic code writing but rather in a more plain to see format.

What about black mix chicks out of the same blue/black pairing. Could they then have a 25% chance of throwing a blue gene depending on what it's paired with?

Help with temps!!

I’m having a really hard time regulating the temperature in my incubator today with the warmer weather. (We don’t have AC here in our UK farmhouse.)

ive had to adjust the thermostat down to 36.8C because the calibrated thermometersI’ve got in there were both reading 38C.

It’s forced air, so my target temp is 37.5.

ahould I give the eggs a little “cool down” time for 15-20 minutes? Or just keep an eye on the temps and adjust it down more if I need to?
It’s best to put the incubator in a room that stays constant all the time... do you have a room like that? A basement maybe?

You will have to adjust accordingly if you don’t have a room that has a semi regulated temp because letting the eggs cool or turning off and on the bator is never a good thing to do. You can get major temp spikes which can instantly harm the embryos in the eggs.

No, even if it came from a blue, if it is black, it alone could not just “throw” blue, unless, it was bred to a blue or splash bird.

we don’t have anywhere other than the cellar (and I’m not sure if there’s electric outlets down there...plus you’ve got to go down a ladder to get down there and not sure how I feel about carrying these eggs down a ladder lol!) that stays at a constant temp that’s also out of reach of my 3 nosy little humans. I’m home all the time with the lockdown situation anyway, so at the minute I’m just adjusting the incubator temp up or down by .1-.3 degrees each hour to keep it at 37.5

next time I incubate I’ll probably use the cellar if there’s outlets down there

Over 40 Bielefelders suddenly available (female) on McMurrays for July 6th ship date. Someone must of cancelled their order. I promise I do not work for them...:)
Ack!
Hoping and praying that my eggs, not due until next week, don't arrive scrambled, because if they do I doubt any of these chicks will be left.
But...maybe the Bieles craze has calmed a bit because I've noticed that since I got my eggs the prices have stayed low.

Oh, and I've been meaning to ask...why not just take a stroll down along the beach and nab you a chicken or two... They sure were colorful when I was there.

Where is @CluckNDoodle? and how are things going @Mixed flock enthusiast?

I'm sorry I've been missing in action! Thank you for thinking of me! I have had so much going on! Birthdays, friend possibly moving in temporarily, my first nephew was born, my Mom getting two surgeries one after the other and I need to help her. I've just been super busy! I have my first of 3 hatches coming Saturday though so I need to get ready for the fluffy butts! Lol
