June Hatch-A-Long

6/11 Silkie eggs have hatched so far! Looks like we're getting a good variety for colors too. Looks to me like a blue, a couple of partridge, some paint or splash, and a white or buff one. I'm not too good at identifying them, so I'll have to wait until they're grown to see if my guesses are right or not. I'll try to post pictures later, but for now, I really need a nap.

The second chick to hatch involved a lot of blood, at first we weren't sure the little one would make it but so far is doing alright. I figured the best thing I could possibly do is just leave them be in the incubator. I think it was the right call as they're starting to fluff out and are just as active as the less messy hatchers.

Fingers crossed most of these chicks are hens. I'm keeping the blue one regardless though, they're already just so pretty.
Congratulations on your hatch! :loveMust see silkie chick photos! Fun guessing the colors. I ended up keeping 2 of my self blue (lavender), though they looked white until their silvery wing feathers started to grow in! :)

Just finished up day 14 candling. Looks like I might have 2 quitters, but am still keeping an eye on them. Not as much of a change in the air cells that I see in various illustrations, but certainly a change from day 7. I'm watching humidity carefully.

So as of now it would appear I have 18 still progressing and 2 maybes. The 2 maybes were active 5 days ago so I'll keep checking them.
I can hardly believe it's only one week to go!

out side pips mean it could be another 24 hrs before a hatch. Sit on your hands and wait for a day 21 hatch.

I meant internal pips  but I also see external pips. I am not ready for them to hatch tomorrow so I'm more than happy for them to stay put for another 24 hrs.

I'm set up to have them tomorrow, but not mentally prepared due to the millions chicks I am already taking care of. Never realized how much time and work it is to refill feeders and waterers and clean brooders.

I almost had a mental breakdown today because I thought I was done with my morning chores and then I was like :barnieI haven't even refilled the poults' feeders!

Chicks keep you busy for sure, I have these 4 currently still in the house...

they are the babies of my avatar, black ones plus a tan friend from the hatch just before theirs. The tan one was kinda shrimpy, so it went in with these chicks. I have done that with my other hatches, if one chick was not as robust, I would put it in with the next batch. The batch before this one had about 19 chicks, and it was not good for a shrimp. This group is more mellow.
Below is the first one hatched of my avatar

You can see some friz coming in,
