June Hatch-A-Long

I just went through and candled on day 15 my Lavender Orpington eggs and had to discard another 12.

I started with 26 and I am down to 4 with a hatch day of the 19th.

I've had a bad feeling about these eggs ever since the post office screwed up with them, I figured they were cooked during transport. They spent an extra day traveling around Arizona in 100+ heat on a semi as they were put on the wrong truck and went north towards Scottsdale instead of south to my post office from the distribution center that is an hour and a half from my house. These are teh eggs my local postmaster hunted down and had to go to another postal district to get for me as they were marked out for delivery but had not even hit my post office.

Day 30 and my muscovies are getting ready! 4 ext pips now. Will be a long day or two of waiting before something more happens.

Wondering if I got the date wrong on the chicken eggs. None of them are even remotely ready, at what I thought was day 20. Might be a day off...

I found my BCMs slow - first pips halfway through Day 21 and the first hatched at the end of the day, followed shortly by a second. The rest were all Day 22 hatchers. I was soooo worried that something was wrong as my eggs normally begin hatching like popcorn right on schedule.

This was my first batch of BCMs, but reading up on people's experience with them it sounds like sometimes they hatch on time and sometimes are slow to hatch. Just like some folks swear they are harder to hatch - but I didn't find that. Mine were great once they got going, but were a day later than what I'm use to. They were also some pretty large eggs though.

We took these two from a broody. We didn’t feel comfortable with a Muscovy raising chicks.

@CluckNDoodle or anyone who’s dealt with broodies... my nesting boxes are about a foot off the ground. How will the chicks get in and out? I know I probably sound stupid

Oh no! I'm sorry.
They were very quick to respond to my email about the missing chicks and issue a refund and I'll bet they will do the same for you.

I actually got them at rural king so they said I could. One in for a refund or replacements. The only thing is they won’t have anymore of the ones I lost since they were special order. I’ll see what they have in but I might just get a refund.

They’ll get out easy and won’t go back. Momma will pick a corner of the coop most likely and keep them on the ground.
