June Hatch a Long

The temperature in my incubator keeps spiking and all the thermometers that were calibrated are  all giving different readings.
I don't know if it's from the automatic egg turner I added this time or this crazy heat, but I hope I get a good hatch!!!

. Turner motor will add 2-3 degrees but it will level off under adjustment

lockdown tonight on my 9 SLW'S.
I may go out and stick them under the
broody though......I am tired with all the ones in the brooders..............
chicks here. chicks there..........baby chickens every where.................

OMG.......just told my DH that my hatching was over for the year..................
then kylelauchie posted the pic of her chick.....

I don't have any of those.....................soooooooooooo maybe I'll put the incubator away.............

Question for you guys. (And gals) I have heard not to let polish free range, but is it ok if it is just one or 2 with the rest of my flock of 16? It is mainly only when I am home. They have a big run to be in when not out.

Alright, last Ameraucana hatched, now i have some more Ameraucana eggs i just set, along with some Pekin, and Khaki Ducks

Here's the chick, i have a feeling she's going to be a gorgeous hen

I am partial to the Welsummers. They are smart and great foragers.

Me too! Our Welsummer is an awesome free-ranger, and I love her dark brown speckled eggs. Ours is currently brooding two Cream Legbar eggs. As a plus, you can often sex the chicks at hatch.

Question for you guys. (And gals) I have heard not to let polish free range, but is it ok if it is just one or 2 with the rest of my flock of 16? It is mainly only when I am home. They have a big run to be in when not out.

depends upon how full their crests are.
also depends upon if you want to show them, if the other chickens pick their feathers, etc.
try reading the polish threads for what other polish keepers do (I just got some too and I'm trying to read up on them as well)

Congrats! Ducklings are so adorable! I would try some if I could figure out what to do with them, but then again the DH is a bit blown away by my chicken fixation, so maybe I shouldn't poke the bear . Good luck on the hatch! I ordered some nipples online and converted a 5 gal home depot bucket into a waterer for the same reason. My four hens never empty it... I empty it once a week to rinse it out and refresh the water. My next move is to put a pipe elbow into it near the top so I can fill it from outside the coop! They learned how to drink from the nipples in just a couple hours. Made a different style for my pullet pen, with pipe-saddle style nipples. The bucket is outside the pen (easy to fill) and the pipe extends through the fence into the pen. Again, they were drinking from it in less than a day.

that is awesome. I have some small buckets. Want to make larger ones. Think I will now!

so the rain made me redo my chicken palace to a better one. but for now i had to put all three hen and two roo in a large dog cage. my only surviving duck was left to wonder around. sad lonely thing is trying to get into his palace that now is just stinking mud. I put a kids pool and food for him but he is just lonely and sad. wont move from next to the cage

Yeah I feel I got asweet deal around here after the neighbors actually got to know us. Bad rumors old neighbors that cheated us on some animals before. Stuff like that.

JNJ Some1 beat meto the "Thought you were done for the year" bit.

So far out of the 10 snatched guinea eggs I have 1 white hatched with no signs of any more pips. It was rather shrunk wrapped and I did assist. But hoping mama has better luck. Bad wind started this pm though hoping its don't do any damage to her nest or keets should any hatch tonight.

Rearranged some birds so I can move everyone up 1 grow out area. Just realized I have like 4 steps up before adding to adult flocks. Basement, garage, large brooder, growing pen. Then actually another grow pen.

Anyway if I have already stated next Wensday I'll be adding some more chicken eggs to bator, since duck decided she not a sitter.
