June Hatch a Long

It is day 24. I have one egg that pipped about 36 hours ago. She is still trying to get out. There is a decent sized hole and a hairline crack another 1/3 the way around the egg, but the edges are getting dry. I used a q-tip to moisturize the edges and put a damp paper towel under the egg. Is there any more I can do for the poor little thing?

The second egg pipped yesterday morning and is finally making some progress this morning.

How long does this take? I'm trying to keep my hands off of them, but they are starting to sound desperate.

The third possibility is peeping but hasn't pipped. I understand it can take another 24 hours to pip after internally pipping, so I'm trying to be patient.

The rest of the 13 are quiet and not doing anything that I can see.

Everything is running so late, I'm hesitant to dump even the eggs I'm sure aren't developing (one of the ones hatching is one I had in the area for quitters and had marked with a question mark).

Temp steady at 100, humidity hovering around 60 -- a bit more or less depending on when I added water.

READ this link and then you can make a good informed decision on weather or not to assist.

Since every single one of them are late I would question if possibly the thermometer is off. It doesn't take much of a variation to make them a day later or two. I tend to be a person that has an issue keeping my hands off of the eggs. So personally I probably wouldn't wait TOO much longer before I started checking on the chicks. But again... I am one who does not know how to sit on their hands lol. If you do decide to open the bater a good tip that I use is go into your bathroom with it. Turn on the shower and let it heat up the room. Then when you open it you are not exposing them to anything but even more humidity and warmth so not to shrink wrap the chicks that are still possibly going to hatch.

go babies go!!!

6 now pipped and 1 egg has a second pip next to its first pip - so excited now!!! I have a dentist appointment in 1.5 hrs, don't want to cancel it but I hate to leave these babies although everytime I have left them to do something, I come back to the incubator and there is a new development. They are hiding from me, I know it

I think I need to leave the house for a bit but omg I so don't think I will..... hahahahaha
Today is day 21. So not worried..but not too sure about at least the 3..they just looked "off"...haven't hatched a lot but haven't had any that looked like them at lockdown before..they're not as "full"...I'm happy with my 3 that DID hatch (and did it when I was home!! good chickies!) and if I get more..I'll just be that much happier!! :)
Well congrats! and hopefully you will get a surprise ;)

I just got my first hatchling. I had to help. He/she had been struggling for 36 hours and pipped on the wrong end of the egg. Mama is a Buff Orp, daddy was an EE.

He/she is having a problem getting upright, but everything appears to be working right. Maybe that is normal.

My VERY FIRST HATCH, ever.

Hi sharol,

Congratulations. Lovely little baby.

I am waiting on my last chick and it's struggling. Soon it will be day 25. Also this is my first hatch and I am clueless, so no advise from here.

I should start figuring out what my chicks are! I am no good with chicken breeds, I keep them to eat eggs.

After having a zero hatch for the last THREE incubating sessions, I have a tiny little bit of success this time with FOUR having hatched successfully. The latest chick is a bit weaker than the others, but still hanging in there. Since it is now day 23 and I still have at least 20 eggs in there, I opted to do the float test for the very first time. Well, I either did it wrong or every single one of these eggs is still viable! A few rocked and rolled, but all floated with about 15% above the water line, just like the posted instructions said. So back into the incubator they have gone. No idea what will come of them, but at least there is still hope.

FYI - The hatched ones so far are a BLRW, a FBCM, a Barred Cochin and a Barnevelder. Yay!

I know I'm kind of late joining in, but I have 15 eggs in lockdown. Today is day 20! Nothing happening yet, but I'm still feeling pretty patient. The nice thing about this hatch is that I've been way to busy to obsess over it like I usually do. At least, not until today. I'm off work today, and the house is empty except for me and the eggs. I sure would love to see a pip! My eggs are a mix of Black and Lavendar Ameraucanas, Black and Blue Copper Marans, and a few EEs that I added in last minute.
