June Hatch a Long

lol I think the pictures are a bit blurry. Those are not the air cells, the air cells are down in my palm. That there is the albumen. It does kinda look like air cells huh?

To see any veining you need to shine the light at the top end where the air cell is, that will allow the light to illuminate the shell. You should see veining around the aircell. Were you candling from the small end?

HI all!! I've been hoping to join one of these! :) Hope it's not too late! I had a horrible hatch on May 31st where only 6out of 18 that were put into lockdown hatched! :( Started with 27 eggs to begin with and the PO did a NUMBER on one set I had gotten! Soooo now I have a broody that hatched out 2 babies on Sunday...OMG are they CUTE!! and fun to watch them with her! I have another broody whose eggs are due to hatch on Monday..I have 6 eggs in my mini due Monday...I got another set of eggs from a wonderful BYC'er that I set just the other day...too bad the PO did another number on those!! Smashed 7 of 25!!! And kind of scrambled the air cells so we'll see if anything happens with those at all! :( REALLY NOT LIKIN THE PO lately! :( I'm hopin to also get some sizzle eggs to set here in the next couple days! :) Then I "should" be done for the summer! ;)

I too had horrible hatches with shipped eggs. And honestly it is VERY easy to detach or rupture an air cell. I did it myself on my own eggs. Eggs should not be shipped to hatch. If so, you need to order 4 times what you need. You want 10 chicks, order 40 eggs. I have one more shipment of eggs coming through the PO and I will hopefully get the amount of birds I want. From then on I am done wasting my money!

Good Luck!! :) This is my first hatch too! I am paranoid already....

Thanks and you too.

Today I received 2 lots of eggs, 9 of silver laced orps and 6 red sex links but 2 of the eggs were broken. They were packaged in a normal eggbox with scrunched up newspaper around the box of eggs which was inside a bigger box. Not surprised that 2 were broken and am not expecting much for the remaining 4. The 9 were beautifully wrapped and not a mark on them.

I am expecting another 8 tomorrow so will leave the ones that I have standing in the boxes so they can settle although I am dying to put them in the incubator but will hold off.

If I were to put them in the incubator tomorrow morning and then my other 8 in tomorrow night, would that be ok when it comes to lockdown because of different setting times or should I rather wait for all eggs to have settled and then place them all together in the incubator? How long can they stand settling before they have to be put into the incubator to still be viable?
