That was me & my broody! She's my first so maybe it's not necessary but since she had a terrible panic and needed to get OUTside, didn't want to be confined, it's easier if I remove her and let her run around outside while I do chicken chores. I make sure to put her food and water next to her. Otherwise I don't think she'll ever get off the nest until she reached that panic point again. She's quite entertaining when I put her out. I do also put a small dish of scratch within her reach while she's on her nest - spoiled, I know!

Ok so I just went out to check on my broodies and 2 of them switched nests!!! I guess that's not a big deal as long as they continue to sit and hatch the babies. Lol!

No i have not moved them from the coop. They are the only ones in that coop laying so I don't have to worry about added eggs.

For sure! Candled today and she has veins in all 7 and I can see movement in four - and these are shipped eggs. From now on I'll only do shipped eggs with a broody!

Okay - really excited now - I went to pick up my guinea eggs to put in the bator - I get there and this sweet lady shows me her flock - she has some beautiful LF Cochins.

I walked around and talked with her for a bit about the cochins and then she took me to the next coop over from the cochins - THERE she had these gorgeous, GORGEOUS French Birchen Marans (from Wade Jeane's bloodline!!)

I could not believe what I was hearing (or seeing) - so I asked about buying some only to find out that she had placed an add to sell some of the eggs but didn't get any takers - so she refrigerated them. As we walked through her coops she collected all the eggs the hens had laid this morning - 4 LF Cochin, 2 Birchen Marans, and one Dominique. We went inside to get the guinea eggs that I had gone to pick up and she showed me all the info on the bloodlines of her Marans - we talked a bit longer AND THEN - when I got ready to leave - she handed me the eggs that she collected while we were walking through the coop. She asked me to let her know how the hatch comes out and if I would like to purchase more eggs! I couldn't believe that I only paid $15 for ALL of these eggs (guinea and chicken).

WOW - now I am super excited about this hatch!!!

Found this one on another thread. Problem will be finding the 35MM canister in the digital age. DIY Egg Candler I wanted to share with you, a simple but effective egg candler that I have just made. The total build cost is about £3 ($6), and it is very easy to make. You will only need 3 components as shown below. 1. A small 9 x LED torch (approx 95mm long x 30mm diameter) available from lots of local outlets at a cost of around £3 ($6). It requires 3 x AAA batteries, which were supplied. 2. An old empty 35mm film canister (black), if you dont have one they will give you them for free at film processing shops. 3. A 20mm open rubber grommet (not essential), from most diy or electrical outlets costing next to nothing.

Discard the lid from the film canister, you dont need that part. Try to find a canister that is a snug fit onto the end of the torch, or use some electrical tape to hold it on. Drill or cut a 20mm hole into the base of the canister as shown below.

Push the rubber grommet into the hole, its a tight fit and does not need fixing. This part is not essential, see below.

Thanks fir the fantastic ideas! I might build both and see how they compare. Now just fit the canister onto the end of the torch as shown below, and you are done.

Here is mine. Coffee can and a light base. I put some electrical tape around the hole to protect the eggs when candling.

I candled again tonight (end of day 6) and I was pleased with what I saw, however out of the 18 eggs with veins, embryos and nice size air sacs, I only saw one with movement for the first time- should I be worried or are they all developing at different paces?
I borrowed this video from another user on here- excuse me for forgetting their user name, but this is just an example of what I saw in the egg with movement.

I don't worry too much about movement as long as I see veins, especially before day 10. It's just an extra bonus when I see it wiggling
