June Hatch a Long

Have to show off my mama. She hatched out her last baby on the last day of May. Bantam Favorelle. She's a good mama. I haven't had a broody in a few years, so I am loving this! I lifted her up, and all 7 popped out. She started clucking at them, telling them to get back in here. She went back to the corner of the area, can you see the little one peeking out in the picture below? Can ya tell I'm loving this? Haven't had a broody in years. Did I already say all of that? lol.. Fun!

That is so heart-warming! I can't wait to see this for myself. I don't have a mature rooster yet, so none of my broodies get any satisfaction :) I have a hen that has been broody on my wooden target egg for about 2 weeks. If I put some hatching eggs (I am getting some for my incubator) under her tomorrow, do you think she would hatch them, or is another 3 weeks too long for her?

I am actually having a problem getting the humidity up. Right now it around 50%. I keep adding a bunch of water through a straw but it won't go up. I think that I am going to put a pot of boiling water in the room. That helps put humidity in the air when it is really dry in the house in the winter. I noticed that a week ago when it was really humid outside and the window was open it kept humidity in the incubator. I know how important it is to have that humidity high so that the membrane is kept moist.
good idea....I moved mine to the kitchen yesterday and put a pot of water to boil.it helped..........

I added a wet paper towel to bring it up for me. It worked really well, but it will dry out so keep feeding it water. Make sure it is in a position where you can reach it with your straw. This was in addition to the water in the trays.

Beautiful mama!!! Love those faverolles! That's what I'm hatching, but under an australorp hen :)

I am picking up some fresh eggs to hatch this weekend. I have a broody who has been broody for 2 weeks now. If I gave her eggs, do you think she would set on them for another 3 weeks or is that asking too much? So far she goes back every time I throw her out of the box, so it is either hatching some eggs or the broody buster for her :)
. If she is that determined I would say she would go another 21 days but if not you can always finish them in the bator my wife has a lil Banty x that can't hatch a egg for anything but when she goes to being broody she won't quit she will stay on the nest for six months if you let her just make sure she eats and drinks so she don't come off skin and bones and let her try

What a pretty chicken mama and beautiful babies! I am just starting my 'chicken craze' and hope to someday have my chickens hatching their own chicks! So far I have 2 chickens that are 7 weeks old and 2 chicks that are 4 weeks old and 9 in the incubator due to hatch this week.
