I just candled my eggs, I set 12 on the 27th of May, this is day 9. 5 turned out to be duds, 4 clear and 1 blood ring. The other 7 seem to have a mass inside them, but I cant see any veins or spider webbing. The eggs are brown and dont seem to be easy to see through. The masses float and roll when I turn the egg. Some of them seem to be in 2 parts like a large thick dark "U"

This is my third attempt at hatching. 1st attempt ended up with 8 out of 21 eggs hatching...there were lots of duds in that hatch and 3 that drowned before hatching (over large egg layer) Second attempt had a full set of duds (Im using a different roo, 2 years old and Im starting to wonder if he is sterile or has bad aim)

My first hatch I could see the veins really well, but this set seems to be too dark. It appears that there are veins, but I cant be certain. I used a dark blanket over my head, covering the incubator to keep heat loss at a minimum. Im using the same flashlight as before.

Anyone know where I can see some good pictures of developing brown eggs at 9 days old?

Day 13 in this thread looks close to what Im seeing. But its only day 9?! But no veins visible.

Yessssss

I set it up and it has now been running for about 12 hours and temp is holding absolutely steady at 37.5C or 99.5F. Hoping to set eggs tonight and then start praying, biting fingers and stressing until day 21 - all the fun parts.

Good Luck!! This is my first hatch too! I am paranoid already....

Yes it is! Normally the area around the air cell is smooth, when you see any protrusions it usually means it has pipped the air cell. Usually followed by the peeping sound

The eggs I am hatching now are all brown. If you place the light at the fat end where the air cell is and look closely around the edge of the air cell, you should see veining!

The hens are 1 year and 1 month old. My first hatch gave me 2 from my americaunas and 6 from these 2 girls. the roo was a GLW, but this time Im using a Penciled Rock roo.
