June Hatch a Long

good to hear after our conversation the other day I hit the books to try and dig up more info but hit a brick wall over and above what we had done to try and remedy the issue I was concerned but I am happy to hear things are looking up good job and again that polak is too cute

Well one full day down and all babies are fine. I am hoping to have another day like today with them. The only other thing I could think of is they were not my eggs. I don't know how they were fed or cared for. I can say that I have never got any porus eggs from my hens but the ones that I purchased were very porus. Why is that? Is it because how they are fed? Mine are very spoiled. They get oats egg pellets. Scratch. And fodder.

Looks like you humidity might be a little high. I think its 60's range. Does the chick seem to be struggleing and not getting any more loseness on the shell?

So sweet, common on other eggs, hatch now!

The went into lockdown last night. We are trying using cut down cartons with this hatch. There are some very experience hatchers who us that method and are successful. It helps keep the incubator cleaner I read and it keeps the chicks from pushing about the the other eggs waiting to hatch. I have Swedish Flower Hens and Blue Splash Ameraucana. I am very hopeful to get have a good hatch. We should know by late Sunday or Monday. All will join our 4 week old Rhodebar chicks.

Hey guys, a quick update for me! So my last hatch before this one none hatched. I suddenly thought it might be the thermometer, and sure enough it was reading a full three degrees low! So the babies had been developing, but so abnormally they were unable to hatch. So this time I bought a new thermometer, calibrated, and it was near dead on. I kept the other thermometer in there too, knowing it was low, to temp one side and the accurate to temp the other.

I tried to candle on day three with a little flashlight, since I had lost my good candling flashlight, and I couldn't see anything happening. I got nervous, since I can always get more marans eggs, but I can never get more Cider eggs. So tonight while I was out I bought a new high power led mini flashlight and that sucker is BRIGHT!

Turns out all of Cider's eggs are developing And, as a bonus, the flashlight is so bright it could see into the marans eggs too and from what I can see most are coming along nicely!

How long has it been like that? Sometimes they can take hours and hours to zip.

Old hens produce more porous eggs. It can also be a calcium deficiency.

I have babies! This morning I filled Betty's little dish and could still hear peeping. I pulled out three empty shells but haven't actually seen the chicks yet. Chilly morning here - glad she's keeping them warm.

The bantams have almost all hatched under the broodies. Incubator lav/split ameraucanas just went on lockdown!
Eggtopsied one of two that looked clear...bad scrambled. The other was a fully formed chick, and hubby barely perforated inner membrane before I stopped him. Should we wrap it up and put it back in the bator???

YES!!! Put it back it can still hatch!
