June Hatch a Long

Is there a cure for Chicken Math?

Same story here. Got 6 adult hens from my mom who was getting out of chicken raising. Raccoon killed them so I ordered 25 assorted layer chicks. Got 30, but whittled down to 18 over a year and was perfectly content. Then had a broody hatch 3, lost 2 of those. Got 'chick fever' from the broody, bought an incubator, and hatched 8. Just hatched another 4, and now about to set all the eggs from our flock today and tomorrow on Saturday for a test run. I don't think there's a cure. You can only manage the symptoms by putting them on the table or selling them off.

I'm setting mutts this Saturday! Anything I find in the nests tomorrow and Friday are going in the bator. I gotta figure out what I'm doing wrong when incubating before I do any more heritage eggs.

this is my second try... I have a new rooster and i tweeked a few things in my homemade incubator. Hoping this time around i've got it right... I'm hatching these little fluffy butts for my cousin. His dog wiped out all 16 of his chickens and three ducks just cuz he was bored!

Hatch day is here for us! 17 eggs went into lockdown. 1 blue cochin has pipped so far and I think I hear peeping from some other eggs. First I was worried that none would hatch, now I am worried only 1 will hatch!!! Still day 21 for another 14 hours, so I know I shouldn't worry about that yet...but I still am. Patience...patience.

Patience is the hadest part of hatching

That's so sad! I don't know what I would do if my dogs turned on the chickens. Good luck to you and your cousin!

Patience is the hardest part of hatching

I'm the most impatient person I know! It's horrible - I lose days during the week because of it. Last batch I candled on days 6 and 13 before I realized I was forgetting what day of the week it was. Which then made my work weeks seem like were lasting FOR-EV-ER!

Woke up this morning and brooder room door was left open all night. ( son forgot to close it ) missing about 30 chicks and one turkey. Ugh. I am so upset. Why me?

Got woke up at 4 am to the sound of chainsaws outside my house. The power was out im not sure how long so of course now im worried about my eggs due the 22nd. Go out this morning and the electric guy had taken half of my mulberry tree out and a maple out front. Really sucks. My bator was at 82 when we got up. I stayed up til 6 when they got it on until my bator was back up to temp. I sure hope they are ok, even if it does delay them a bit.
Congrats to everyone's hatches this month! We're done hatching for this year
