June Hatch a Long

7 out so far! About 10 more pipped. All seem pretty healthy. The one that took the longest to get out seemed to have a weak neck or harder time getting it straight. I think he is slowly getting it worked out though. Had one more than popped right out rather quickly and it is dragging around a piece of what I assume is the unabsorbed yolk. It seems ok so I guess that will dry up and fall off?

If it is a light yellow, kinda slimy, little white mixed in? Then it is completely normal. Its membrane and yolk debris. Yes it will dry up as it gets dragged around and fall off.

Of course Im fairly new at this but I noticed some posts of eggs pipping at wrong end. Is this because air sack was at wrong end or chick just did not turn properly? One thing I did with my bator when I set it up was, take a level and elevated one end a few degrees. That way when I layed the eggs in there with the large end uphill I figured this would help ensure the air cell was in proper place. Any thoughts?

That was a good idea. Not sure why it pipped wrong. Most of the time I see it, they have come from shipped eggs where the air cells are crazy wonky. This is not the case with these eggs, air cells were perfect. Sometimes we just never know. As long as it can breathe and it didnt nick a vein and start bleeding, it should be ok. I just have to watch it carefully.

We still talking about booze right? Lol!
Yeah, I'm going to pick out something nice for lockdown to ease my nerves. Maybe I should get a taste for my hubby's scotch? Nah, I'm liking the sound of margaritas!

Oh yeah I am in. I am on day 20 and I have 10 pips!

Sounds like a plan! Something cold & tasty to take the edge off! Sllluuurrrrp!!!
Always drink in moderation folks! Don't want to start another addiction here. ;)

Yes moderation. Meaning only on lockdowns ladies and gents. Lol

Drink lightly - You might not be able to tell if the eggs are rocking or if it is you.  LOL  Mojitos here.
ha ha. That is too funny

One of Cider's eggs has pipped!! I'm so looking forward to it popping out of there. I hope it looks just like its mother.

Been up most of the night watching to see what happens next. Got 17 now so almost 50%hatch already if no more hatch but several more are pipped. Pleased so far, considering 14 out of the 37 eggs were over 2 weeks old I know and they of course are the ones taking longer which I figured they might.

Cider's first chick popped out! It looks like my buff orp was the daddy, so surprise, the chicks are sex-linked! I can't tell for absolute sure, since the color difference is subtle in this cross, BUT it looks kind of orange-reddish so I think it's a girl. I'll be able to tell for sure if I get a roo too.
