June Hatch-A-Long

Well, "Peep" tricked us, apparently she was zipping around the underneath of the shell where we couldn't see. Just pushed out of the shell and is trying to figure out walking already. Have another with an external pip (not a hole, just a crack), and another farther in the back that we couldn't see well is making quick work of zipping around her shell.

So that's two out, "Chickie" and "Peep", one zipping, and at least one external pip. I think the next one out will be named "Fluffy"... gotta love the kid-chosen names :)

Looks like it's going to be a good hatch day - I'm just happy that we got any hatched successfully since it's our first time, mostly shipped eggs, and considering our temp problems, I was worried we wouldn't get any and the girls would be crushed... this is so fun!

So I had 8 chicks hatch while I was away at church camp. 2 didn't make it (they were not fully formed), but the other 6 are doing great. 1 little EE won't put weight on it's foot but I'm going to make it a brace and boot today.
Here are my newest additions

chick#1 Silky

Chick #2 EE

Chick #3 polish cross

chick # 4 polish cross (This one has the most awesome coloring)

chick #5 EE (this is the one that won't bare weight on it's right leg)

chick # 6 tiny polish cross

I can't wait for them to get bigger to see what they are going to look like. I have to give coodo's to my hubby and boys, they did a great job taking care of these little guys for me.

My 6yo is REALLY anxious to take Chickie out of the incubator, but I had hoped she'd have a friend to come out with by morning so she wasn't all alone in the brooder... no such luck. One other egg did break a little hole through the shell/membrane this morning, but hasn't really started to zip around yet (poking a hole through the shell is an 'external pip', right?). We missed this step with the first one, it can really take a while to unzip, right?

In this last hatch, I had one pip in the morning, and not hatch until the next morning. 24 hrs. Happens often. Hopefully you can still hear chirping, and/or movement. Some get big enough to pip, but are still absorbing blood and yolk. :) Won't be long though.

Our babies are here! A couple of days early...4 out of 5 so far.
Here are pictures of two and Mama - too cute to be legal!

Oh that is a nice little run for momma and chicks .....

Momma looks so natural and only 24 week old and 16 chicks now I did take the rest of her egg's away from her and put them in the incubator and two of them are peeping right now and the other four we are just waiting on .....

Just take a look at that wing development of this little guy and not even a week old yet .....

The chicks are getting their first taste of hard boiled egg's and if momma takes any from the bowl that is the piece the chicks want .......

Everyone have a poultry weekend ..........

Thank you gander...my son and hubby made it together - it's working well - sitting on cinder blocks in the center of the big girl coop and run. Has a removable roof for access.
The 5th baby was dead...the little egg got crushed by momma and didn't survive. But the other 4 are amazing...so cute.
