Well it's 11:44pm and........

no pips...

I candled. They definitely have chicks in them but there are no movements.

One of them has a gray spot in the air sack... I dunno what it means. Is it internally pipped?
Anyway.. My current emotion is --->

But here's to hoping I have something in the morning...

Gray in the air cell does mean it is internally pipped and this late the only movement you will see is a flop every once in while right near the air cell...but if you aren't seeing that then my prognosis isn't good.

Out of our 9 fertile eggs 8 have hatched! One lonely egg left in that hasnt done anything yet. They seem so much smaller than the day old chicks we got from the hatchery. So cute though. Now hoping they aren't all Roos. Our first hatch was a success!

congrats on the chicks. They grow so fast, I stopped at the hatchery the other day to see what they had for candlers (nothing worth spending money on) and a lady had a box of broiler day olds, and they were so tiny, hard to believe when mine are 8 weeks today, and we are gearing up to start butchering the lot of them over the next 3 weeks.

Hatchery birds are larger if you had them shipped. You will see very soon the difference even 2 or 3 days makes.

Think about it...on day one they are nothing but fluff.. by day 3 they are starting to get their wings. By week 2 they are mostly feathered and like 3x the size they started as

Does the grey look like this? Some of my duck eggs have this going on, but I'm not convinced that it's all the way broken through. I thought so at first, but no peeping, just movement. I candled today. It's been like this for a couple of days. Baby still kicking.

I lock down on day 17 and day 18 that is what my chicken eggs look like. By day 19 they are pipping through and hatching. You can actually see their beaks pecking against the egg shell once they are internally pipped. It's really neat. When I first saw one I thought something awful had happened until I realized that was it's head. Lol

These are a mix..mom a Call duck..dad a Rouen. I hear Call ducks are hard to hatch because they are bantam. These eggs are a nice size though.

I've hatched chicks for years, but only once before..years ago, ducks. I don't know much about hatching ducks. Doing this for a friend, so, pretty nervous. Mom killed by a racoon.

the gray is like a light gray at the very top. not sure exactly what it is. It could be pipping but i don't hear any sounds, or movement. i guess it could be that i didn't candle at the same time that the bird moved so i still have some hope.

I have been working on scrapbooking so i have my mind off it. i will update you guys in the morning.

I'm on day 20, so far I've had 3 Sussex and 1 Buff hatch. Have a couple more external pips.
