June Hatch-A-Long

Omg. I am so sorry. My husband is acting a little crazy about my eggs. Do you think they get jealous?

Maybe. My hubs is typically gone a lot traveling for work, but he recently took my job where he is able to be home more.

I would say jealousy of eggs is a bit ridiculous, but it almost seems like if it wasn't jealousy, it was spite.

(I have spent the last week outside working our yard.) we have 15 acres and cut down 2 60 foot tall trees last week. I have been working on cleaning up all the debris from that, Plus I am trying to get the garden planted. He and the kids do absolutely nothing to help with house work. He was upset the basement was a mess and so I told him he is an adult and capable of cleaning as much as I am And when I feel like spending a day indoors cleaning I will.

I guess, if he wants to chuck out 80$ worth of eggs because he is having a fit he is entitled to do that, but now we won't likely have guineas here helping with our very real tick problem. Really nice since they were my Mother's Day gift. :/. I had an incubator full. Like 45 eggs! Now there is like 10.

I am so upset. I am just going to go to bed.

I would freak out and someone would be waking up with dead poultry under their pillow as a guilty reminder of the murders that were committed. Lol. Not really, but I would make sure there was a huge guilt trio going I would have a present of chick's by the end of the week. Lol

I am just sick. The hubs was having a fit about a mess the kids left in the basement and in an angry fit of cleaning dumped my incubator on the floor. More than half my eggs are smashed. The rest are covered in goo and yuck. :hit

I candled and put some back in to see what will happen, but I expect the whole bunch will be trashed. :( Goodbye guinea army and BCMs.

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry! :(

Tomorrow is lockdown!!! We candled tonight. All 24 are looking good! I did put a question mark on one just because I didn't see any movement, but it had the fullness the rest had. Fingers crossed! We're almost there!

Oh my goodness. This is my first time incubating eggs, and since today is day 7 I just took them out for the first time to candle them. There is movement in several of my eggs, it was such an amazing thing to see! Just a little tiny shadow wiggling around in there. I for sure have 8 developing out of 30, BUT I could not see into a dozen of them to see if they have veins because the shells are so dark, so those are a wait-and-see thing. 4 out of my 12 Trader Joe's Fertile Eggs are developing. Not bad for being setting old, roughly handled eggs!
This is so exciting. I can't wait for hatch day.

Today is lockdown for the three lonely little eggs in my Brinsea. I started with 22 eggs that were so scrambled by USPS that most failed to develop at all. Now I have two silkies with saddle cells and 1 little bantam cochin egg. All three were alive and moving yesterday. I'm gonna cross my fingers and pray to the chicken gods that all 3 hatch. Maybe I'll end up with a silkie pair and cochin pullet.

Today is lock down for me. I have to wait until I get home to candle and remove the clears. I checked them a couple of days ago and from what I could see out of 35 eggs there is about 16 eggs that have babies. (I know my hatch rate isn't that great.) Since this is my first time hatching/incubating if for some reason they don't hatch what should I do to see what went wrong?

I am so excited I could almost wet myself! I am hoping that at least one will hatch!

Hahahaha! Yeah, I am going to spend today's 90 degree day cleaning house and then tonight I will likely go order a huge lot of chicks and keets. I just do not really have time to fit in another hatch after this one unless I can find an incubator and eggs today. (I hate doing staggered hatches) we are planning to do some traveling in July, so that is a no hatching month, and hatching in August is not real good since we often start getting cold weather in September.

I am still feeling sick over the whole thing this morning. I know it was an accident, but it was one that could have been avoided if he would have been calm instead of storming around throwing a fit like a 3 year old.

But I doubt he did it on purpose. I, myself, have been guilty of rage cleaning, moving stuff around roughly, when something unthinkable happened. Immediately I started ranting and blaming everyone else, because if I hadn't had to have cleaned up their mess, it wouldn't have happened, right? But deep down inside I knew the disaster was entirely MY fault, and I felt absolutely horrible (and still do to this day whenever I think about it, even though it really was an accident and I wouldn't have purposely cause it in a million years). So while your hubs might still sound snappy about the whole incident, he's probably just trying to hide that he's feeling terrible and guilty for what happened and is beating himself up inside for it.

Praying that the remaining eggs still hatch.
