June Hatch-A-Long

I just spent a cozy 45 minutes reading with a pile of week-old chicks sleeping on my shoulder. Does it get better than that on a warm spring evening?
We have winter here in South Africa and all my chicks are warming up in the brooder! No time for snuggling just time for warming up!

we candled before lockdown and there were 2 obvious quitters, but my son didnt want to just thrown them, so we put them in anyway.. i marked them so I knew which ones were which.. but he felt better thinking we didnt just give up on them...

2 more weeks til the ducks start hatching! (hopefully) I candled just one last night and that baby was moving and groovin in there!

I put all 17 eggs my girls laid in the incubator yesterday, the one side is not getting as warm as it should, grrr, I tried to turn my carton, so they would be under the heat better, and broke one. Hadn't been in long enough for any real development, but it had the bullseye, so it was fertile (not that I doubted it.)

As this is my second attempt ever, I think some more tweaking may be on order.

Hi everyone...

Good luck to everyone who have just hatched or getting ready to hatch some eggs. I set 7 Swedish Flower Hen eggs on Saturday May 31st. Anyone out there around the same time?

I am praying for a successful hatch, and will be over the moon if I get some SFH.. have admired them for a long time.

My BYM bantam has hatched 2 this morning, both are Golden Laced Wynadotte x Blue Laced Red Wyanadotte. Does anyone have a cross like that? I'm curious what they will look like. She has 1more pipped this morning and 2 that haven't done anything. Good Momma so far.

I posted in the wrong month! lol Forgot this is now June! I'm supposed to be in this thread

My eggs went into lock down Sunday lunchtime, tomorrow (Wednesday) will be day 21. No piping yet but I can see the eggs wobbling about in there. This is my first time! I improvised a DIY incubator out of an old cupboard with a glass door that i wasn't using. I'll be thrilled if my eggs actually hatch because my set up is as low tech as possible, but fingers crossed they will! I'v been doing the dry incubation method. I just had a saucer of water in there the whole time, letting it almost go dry and refilling it about every 3-4 days. I wasn't sure what to do about the humidity at lockdown. I'v been reading something else that says for still air incubators the water surface area should cover at least half the floor space, so i'v added more trays of water to cover half the floor. I'v also decreased the temp, it's now at around 36.6 C. But the temp has been falling by a degree at night, by the morning it's reading 35.6C. I had to open the door to ajust the light closer to the eggs to make it hotter, and i added a couple of trays of water, since lockdown on Sunday.I know im not supposed to open the door but i had to! I'v seen the eggs moving though since opening the door, so i think they're ok. If they were to die from opening the door would that happen right away or later on?

Hi .. I have a broody that I just put 17 guinea eggs under yesterday :).. She had been sitting for a couple days on 36 eggs but they r at different stages so they r now in my incubator. It my first broody and my first batch in the incubator......I candled lastnight ( also my first time) and my eggs r for sure at different stages some already have spidering and others are fresh from yesterday eggs ..

I'm excited but not expecting much for my first bator hatch.. It's a LG still air and I'm manually turning
