June Hatch-A-Long

Although I am going to take a pic of what 17 chick's squished in a 20 egg brinsea looks like.
OK here they are in the incubator

Talk about odd man out...what's up with that little silver one. Definitely didn't have any that color in the last batch. Did get another really light colored chipmunk striped one that looks just like a salmon faverolle except for of course the chipmunk pattern. One out of the last batch is feathering in black---curious to see what this one feathers to look like.
I'm also still assuming that the older one is feathering in black because it is a boy. Don't know for sure yet who is who out of the 3 week crowd. See a few I know are females but no obvious males except maybe the salmon faverolle easter egger mix...at least I'm guessing that is what those particular ones are. A buff orpinton is my main rooster but I also have a blue copper marans, a salmon faverolle and a very excited young easter egger. The salmon mixes from the last batch are neat. 2 are feathering in white, 2 are feathering in orange, one is feathering in mostly brown, and the one that was chipmunk striped is feathering in black and white

So adorable! Congrats!
Still on the first week with my guinea eggs.
I'm going to add some amerucauna, marans and whatever else interesting I find at tomorrow's swap to the bator on Monday.

OK we know that it's easy to tell male faverolles from females because the girls feather in white and brown and the boys eat her in black. Do you guys think that would carry over into mixes?

Turns out there are a couple more salmon mixes from earlier I was leaving out...either way I'm thinking 2 of these are boys because of their very dark feathering coming in on their beasts shoulders and their feet... might be the case, might be not.
Either way here goes. The white ones are all different chicks. I feel like most of these have to be mixed with BO because they are huge heavy little buggers. Anyway...

And I know these have little to do with June hatching other than they were hatched from the same eggs I just hatched...
I love mixed chickens. And salmon faverolles mixes might be my new favorite. The one that I'm assuming is an EExSF the black and white is a little smaller than all the other ones. Anyway can't wait to see what they turn into. Unless of course I can sell them soon. I've got then listed locally. I'm torn between hoping someone takes them, and hoping nobody does.

Oops. Left out the black and white one. ..lol

I am loving the brown and gray feathering one. But "his" legs are feathering in black. Ah well they are all interesting except the white ones, and all the obvious BOxEE mixes they are just plain EE patterned but with an orange base---boring. Lol. But of course I am totally intrigues by the ones that are most likely to become males. And that is why I always have way too many roosters. They are just so darn pretty

My hens have gotten wise to the fact that I'm hatching their eggs I think and are hiding eggs...One went broody in the woods, and i think some of the other hens are still adding their eggs to her nest. I hope she's still alive out there anyway--I got 16 mixed eggs shipped to me from someone here on BYC and while it is still really early into their incubation I think they are going to hatch pretty well, and I've got another 13 I'm of my own mixes in the bator started at the same time as the shipped...and then today I got 18 from my bff in sc, but I don't think they are going to do very well at all. A couple of the bantam eggs look like they are partly incubated already, and most of the eggs air cells are wrecked...but we will see. I'll start them tomorrow maybe. Tomorrow or the next day. Either way I think I might have to stop hatching for a bit after all these hatch. For 1 I will be about out of room, for 2 I just can't get enough of my own eggs to keep it going I don't think. Unless some of my younger hens decide to magically start laying. I have the room in the coop for more chickens, and 2 huge outdoor brooders, but with all the differences in ages it is getting a little hinky. Then again by the time more eggs hatch I can move the first batch into the baby side of the big coop, then I can move the ones that just hatched into the brooder the 3 week Olds are in now, and the newbies can go into the brooder I have today's batch in...musical brooders is the name of my game. Either of my big brooders can surely house around 50 or so a piece, but the most eggs I've incubated at once is now 29. 13 of mine and the 16 shipped. I'm becoming truly obsessed. Anyway I gotta get off of here and hope my head quits pounding

Candled my latest batch last night on Day 7.  Set 7 Swedish Flower Hen eggs on May 26th in my Brinsea Mini Advance.  2 were infertile, and 1 early death ring.  Left me with 4 bouncing squirming moving little blobs, with those little black eyes moving about.  I swear they seem to move away from the light.  Do they do that?  I try to be quick, and not linger with the light.

Any one else on or close to day 7?

Good Luck all, and Congrats on all the new little chicks!

I think gravity makes them seem like they are moving from the light. Because we look at the opposite spot of where the light is.
