June Hatch-A-Long

Eek I have 2 bators going. One in lockdown one on day 5 and our power goes out due to a horrid storm. I wrapped them in blankets and am keeping fingers crossed.

Ours went out just for seconds..but it scared me..I was typing here, and off went my computer. We are having micro burst winds! I worry more about the wind than the lightening for power outage. Happens more often when it's windy like this. My poor chickens out there are acting kind of well..dumb. Get out of the wind! They are walking around with their feathers fluffing up all over, and wondering what in the world is going on!
How long was your power out?

Today is day 8, pulled 3 blood rings, 2 leghorn and 1 brown egg, I'm new to hatching and keep forgetting to turn, I really hope that they are not sticking.

I have 2 leghorn chicks that are definitely growing well, and I can't see into any of my brown eggs that are left, I have several questionable white eggs, with veining, but no sign of movement.

Today was day 11 for me and I candled. I'm now at 10/18 on the shipped eggs and still at 6/6 on my eggs. I'm hoping not to lose any more of the shipped ones, but many of them have wonky air cells. Time will tell.

After an almost 6 hour power outage we are back up and running. The bator on lock down had dropped to 79 and the one at 5 - 6 days dropped to 80. Keeping fingers crossed.

Out of our 9 fertile eggs 8 have hatched! One lonely egg left in that hasnt done anything yet.
They seem so much smaller than the day old chicks we got from the hatchery. So cute though. Now hoping they aren't all Roos. Our first hatch was a success!

congrats on the chicks.
They grow so fast, I stopped at the hatchery the other day to see what they had for candlers (nothing worth spending money on) and a lady had a box of broiler day olds, and they were so tiny, hard to believe when mine are 8 weeks today, and we are gearing up to start butchering the lot of them over the next 3 weeks.

So 4:33pm and I candled 1 egg this afternoon when I got home, I saw something in the egg but it wasn't moving at the time of the candling. Grrr. I hope that 1 will at least pip by tonight.
I baked cookies to try to get my mind off the eggs. Lol. That took oh 20-30 minutes. lol.

Anything??

Anything??

Well it's 11:44pm and........

I candled. They definitely have chicks in them but there are no movements.

One of them has a gray spot in the air sack... I dunno what it means. Is it internally pipped?
