JUNE - JULY HATCH-ALONG!!!!!!!

Pics
Two guineas have hatched! One was one of the heavily contaminated eggs! It’s a weird way of doing this - as they finish zipping I’m pulling keet and shell out, walking to the brooder, pulling keet out shell, dabbing with iodine on a q tip, then placing soaking wet keet into heating pad cave within the makeshift brooder. I’ve only just now noticed that what I have is betadine scrub (with soap!). Guess I’ll run to Walmart and see if they have iodine. I’ll have to swab off the scrub as soap is irritating...

Nice little setup! I hope all goes well! I'm so excited for your abundance of babies hatching!! :celebrate

Trimming them yourself? You have mad skills!!!! Farriers have the most amazing patience and endurance!

I was thinking the same thing!! It's one of the reasons I keep telling my daughter I'm not sure about keeping horses. It's a TON of work are requires great skill! :clap

Vet says that yes, chlorhexidine is better for umbilicus in general but she doesn’t know about chickens, specifically.

I told her that was enough for me to go off of and not to try and research.

@Mixed flock enthusiast I’m sure they have it at Walmart too near the iodine.

Great! I did some of my own research while you were asking too!

"To animals, especially to chickens, Chlorhexidine is the most important measure to keep them clean and to keep them unaffected from the external germs such as gram negative bacteria. It works to provide therapeutic bath and helps to promote a healthy skin coat. It should be used for routine shampooing an all dogs, cats, horses, cows and chickens. It is an antimicrobial skin cleanser that helps to reduce bacteria that can cause disease. It is an immediate measure for skin wound and general skin cleansing."

Thank you so much @jolenesdad ! After reading about it I'm definitely ordering some right now!
I actually appear to have some Chlorhexidine in my "People First Aid Kit", it's a soap though. Tractor Supply carries it in 1-gallon jugs for $15 but considering I think it would take me several years to use that much I'm going to overpay for a 16oz bottle from Amazon for $11.50 since it would really just go to waste...

Lol!! 22 Eggs in the Nurture Right. An odd number but I love mine!
