JUNE - JULY HATCH-ALONG!!!!!!!

Pics
I may barely squeak in!!!

Ordered hatching eggs that should be here Wednesday. If I set them Wednesday, they’ll hatch the 31st!

Thinking with the summer heat I’m going to set them right away in case any started development in transit. I won’t start turning for 3 days or so, and maybe that will be like resting them? My duck eggs did great that way, immediately set after arrival, so we will see!

I’ve got a huge mix coming:

Wheaten Marans
Silverudd’s Blue
Blue/splash/partridge Brahma
BBS Copper Marans
....and...
Allllllll the orpingtons

Lavender
Lavender cuckoo
Mauve
Gold/silver/chocolate laced
Mottled
Blue/black/partridge project

I’ll update when I set them how they looked upon arrival! (hopefully Wednesday but we will see)

I ordered about 40ish eggs in hopes to hatch 15-20 and get up to 10 pullets and keep 5 or 6. I’m hoping to keep a few pullets just to grow out and hopefully offset my shipped egg costs or these will end up being the MOST expensive pullets I’ve ever had.

Wow, that's a lot of different breeds and eggs. How exciting! Will be interesting to see if your setting-plan works, and if any of them had started developing before you got them.

Not sure what color it is, but the second keet hatched!!! I have video of it hatching but don’t have a YouTube account to upload there... anyone have a way to convert video to upload instead of linking to another site? This guy is spastic and cheeping up a storm!!! I think they really want mama guinea when they hatch!!!

Aww! Another one! :wee Will you put the first one back in, or wait until this one's dry enough to take out? Are Guineas considered game fowl? My pheasant chicks were extra needy and looking for their mother after they were born. Guess they're not quite as independent and "domesticated" as chickens.

The two born yesterday at 3:00am and 1:00pm, are still having a problem walking. So I made this temporary setup in the bathtub. Hopefully by tomorrow they will be walking better and can join their siblings in the baby pool without being picked on.

That’s the plan anyway.

They are certainly not terribly domesticated! I think that they are often grouped with game fowl. Yes, both chicks do seem desparate for mom. The brooder is in the same room as the incubator, so they keep calling to each other. I have to go to work in a bit, so am wrestling with whether to move what will still be a damp chick in with the other one a little earlier were rhatch than typical... If it would stay where it’s warm in the brooder it would be fine, but the edges are cool...

Well neither looks like they are doing the splits. It is really one that is having more of an issue. The one born at 3:00 am. It can get up and walk a bit, but I have noticed that one of it's leg occasionally gets out from under it. I don't know if its just a weak leg and starting him on the game bird crumbles will fix that or what.

I am not part of this hatch- a-long, i just wanted to share that my broody just hatched her second batch of chicks. 13 little fluff-butts! :weeView attachment 1838897
Awww Naked Necks!!! Love them!!!:love And your hen is so cool, looks like a CCL crest... Is she a mix of some kind? Congratulations on your beautiful little brood!!!:celebrate
