Not to mention the heat has the hens laying less as well. Mine are down but it isn't too bad, a heat wave in Minnesota is nothing compared to the heat down south.
My hens must have there own agenda...I couldn't join the May swap cause they were slacking off then...this month they are laying great...go figure..and I live down south...think they must be independant hens and not follow the crowd...lol...Two of them were cock fighting today...oh the times have change..hehe

well, i don't know what to think... i lost another of my sg dorking girls tonight. thought she went broody the last couple days, but today found her out 'sleeping' in the middle of the driveway. wasn't overly hot, but i moved her to a smaller pen to keep an eye on her, and this evening, i heard her cough a couple times so went to check, and she was dead... her comb looked very dark and not as plump as usual, i attributed that to dehydration possibly from being broody and not eating/drinking enough. but in the small pen, she wouldn't eat or drink at all.

so from 10 down to 5... but i sold 1, and lost 3 to predators. now what?

I am going through the same thing, 1 guinea and duck gone same day, now 3 leg horns, 2 barred rocks OEGB gone nothing but feathers except today found 1 barred rock body neck all chewed. It's happening during the day. But I have way more then 10 hens.

Had a similar experience with me rouens a couple weeks ago. It was from feral cats. So far 2 of the 3 have been taken care of and my 2 big del x hamp Roos have chased of the 3rd a few time. I will take care of it sooner or later. Do you know how funny it is to see a chicken chase a cat?:lol::lol::lol:

Now that would be funny.

I think I almost peed my pants I was laughing so hard. Even my 3 (almost 4) year old was laughing. I was proud of my Roos though. They are good protectors of their girls! It was a short chase and the cat ran away assumingly scared but funny either way. If I had to bet on who would win if they fought I would bet on the Roos. Two eight pound Roos are no match for a 3 pound cat.

I have feral cats here but they have never bothered the chickens or ducks because the chickens chase them,

Since I've never done this before, at what point is it considered a bust?  I'm not even going to be home Friday and Saturday.  I didn't think it would take this long.

Your partner said she sent you a PM. Only you can determine ilwhen it is a bust by giving up on your swap parrner. I've known some of these swappers for a while now and hope to know all of our newer swappers better in coming swaps. I am an optimist and believe everybody is doing the best that they, and their hens can. I know some people would give their eye teeth for some of Lotsapaints eggs. I am one for sure. Denny has some AMAZING birds.
