Thank you lotsapaints!!! Beautiful eggs!!

And thank you so much chiqita for the surprise box!!! How in the world do I incubate quail eggs? They are so tiny. Hey, maybe that means I can hide them easier from the DH.

I know the waiting I'd hard but was it worth it? I just love Denny's eggs.

Now, incubating quail... Quail eggs fit right in my turners. If they don't fit in your turner, make a "nest" for each egg in each opening in your turner. I've done this with paper napkins. Now I put them into an egg carton and put something under one end then turn the carton around so the other end is up when it needs turned. Good luck,
Jim

Denny's eggs are beautiful!! Can't wait to see these guys when they hatch. Do the quail incubate at the same temp as chicken eggs? And how long in the incubator before hatching?

Quails are same temp as chicken eggs. I do try and give them some humidity, since they are smaller, that s more important, for my own chicken eggs i dot really watch humidity much.

You just take them out earlier 14 for lockdown/17 for hatch, IIRC. You think I'd remember since I hatch them constantly... Quail eggs are addictive. Since I started hatching and eating less chicken eggs ( plus I have some wonderful people i give eating eggs to) we eat almost exclusively quail eggs. They have so many i don't think I'm wasting a chick when i have them.

They eat a higher protein food then chicks, we feed our guys game bird feed because its easy to get around here and they do really well on it. You don't want them to hang out in chicken poop, because chickens can pass a disease on to them that's lethal for quail and doesn't hurt chicks at all.

The eggs were originally supposed to be an appetizer (hatching, one, not an eating one , hehe) while you waited for your eggs, but my banties ALL went broody so I had to wait for 2 hens to kick out their chicks and start laying again before I had anything to send! Sparkles was a slacker.

ALSO! 2 pheasant have hatched. and they haven't started to eat each other yet, so I'm figuring I'm doing something right. reading about these guys has me ready for anything!

My goodness, these must be some small guys when they pop out. I'll have to save this info somewhere handy since I will probably forget most of it. Thank you again!

i have 4 quail rails for the auto turners, but because i don't like to disturb eggs incubating to put the turner in/out, now i just anchor it to one of the chicken rails. i just drilled a few small holes to use with long thin bolts, put it on pointing UP, with a bolt near the top to hold it onto the chicken rail, and drilled matching holes in the quail turner. so to put it on, it just slides over the bolts, and slides back off to come out. the bolts are just long enough to stick out about 1/4" above the top of the quail rail, and at first i did put a nut on it to hold it, but i got lazy. LOL
